10 Tips for Pale Skin Girls

Article by BR Tabatha

As soon as Summer is in our sights the glossies and beauty websites are full of tips for looking like a bronzed goddess.  But what about those of us with pale skin? Is our skin only en vogue in Winter?

Not here at Beauty Review!  Pale is gorgeous all year round, so here's our 10 tips to get the most out of your pale skin.

  1. Sunscreen.  Everyone should use SPF regardless of their skin tone or colour, but for our pale skinned girls - a high SPF should be used daily.
  2. Moisturise.  Pale skin is often dry, so never skip the moisturiser!
  3. The two Bs.  Use both blush and bronzer to add a glow to your skin.  Choose a bronzer 2 shades darker than your skin and use it on the 'high' points of your face.  Cheeks, cheekbones, browbone, cupid's bow.  Choose a peach / pale pink blush and use it on the apple of your cheeks.  Sweep the remaining product on to your temples.
  4. Brighten your eyes.  Don't use pale eyeshadows on your eyes.  This is especially important if you also have light hair!  Make your eyes stand out by using colours that compliment your natural eye colour. Or, try just eyeliner alone!
  5. Avoid the powder.  Setting powder can create a mask effect on pale skin - even if it's just the tiniest bit darker than your natural skin tone.  If you must use a setting powder ensure it's translucent and use sparingly!
  6. Don't go nude.  Nude lips on pale skin tend to look wash-out / living dead.  It's a look that's very difficult to achieve, so opt for colour instead.
  7. Never skip the mascara!  A gentle sweep of brown/dark brown mascara will instantly lift your face.  Black or blue-black mascaras can be too much for pale skinned girls, so find a good shade of brown, particularly for everyday wear!
  8. Be gentle.  Fair skin can be more prone to irritation and redness, so choose gentle skin care products and if a product irritates your skin stop using it and try something else!  Rose water is great for soothing inflamed or irritated pale skin and is great for daily use as a toner.
  9. Be naturally bright.  Lightening creams are incredibly popular for pale skin girls who don't want to tan.  But you can use potato paste or unflavoured yoghurt (apply to clean skin for 10 minutes, 3 times a week), to naturally and lighten unwanted tan.
  10. Go sheer.  Avoid full coverage foundations and opt for something sheer.  BB Creams, tinted moisturisers or even tinted primers are going to give you a healthier look - you don't want cake face!

this article is fab! I'm so pasty (I embraced this finally a few years ago and I'm super picky with fake tanning products as I;m mindful of looking orange) but it's great to get some tips - especially when summer is approaching!

Great list oh, and have fun with braids and plaits. You know the saying blondes have more fun, I think they do when it comes to braiding their hair. I can't pull off blond or light colored hair since it doesn't suit my skin tone but blonde hair is so easy to style and detailed braids which are easy and quick to do, red or light colored hair also shows detail. It's just dark and brunette hair that looks best ironed straight and that's really time consuming.

Awesome advice - especially not having nude lips! I struggle with lipstick looking terrible on me, but will be more vigilant about wearing lip gloss all the time :)

I love embracing my fair skin :)

In Summer I opt for Fake Tanned legs, arms and chest and I warm my skin with bronzer :)

I never knew that about fair skin being drier than normal skin, but now i think about it - it makes perfect sense.

Part of my complete and total obsession with korean products at the moment, is that i feel like they were all specifically designed for me!! First theres their philosophy that skin is their makep.. so they opt for spending 80% on skincare and only 20% on make up to accentuate and enhance their glowing skin. Secondly they are obsessed with pale skin beauty. Most skincare products and even bb/cc creams have whitening properties in them to continue to lighten your skin in a very kind and usually organic way - for example strawberry contains whitening properties, as does vit c and ascorbic acid. Thirdly, the bb/cc creams and primers are designed to make you look paler and take out red patches.. so in theory, their coverage make up is better on a pale skinned person. Fourth - why would a pale skinned person want to look paler? This i was aprehensive about, before i started on them 3 months ago. It completely evens out skin tone!! Redness patches, freckles, homemone spots, scars, weathering..all gone. I'm almost back to the peaches and cream complexion of my youth. 5th and probably most important - dryness issues usually mean that a sensitive skin is also an issue. I started off very dubious and terrified of rashes, stinging, and visions of my skin melting off.. now I'll happily throw most korean products at my skin as they are sooo gentle! It goes without saying that most korean products will not contain ugly, bad products that consistently go in to western stuff because it makes it cheaper to manufacture. Most korean stuff will have a little type on it saying NO 5 or a NO 9 meaning that its free of 5 or 9 nasty products that are commonly used in western stuff like parabens, SLS, etc. Often its in glass containers (which i love, they look so flashy and expensive on the bathroom counter) to avoid polluting the products with Bhps and preserving it better.

I rant, but my point is that Korean make up seems to be bizarrely designed for redheads.

Great article with good points!

I'm not saying I'm pale I can just barely pass as a ghost. -_- Luckily though I'm always really rosy cheeked so I don't look as pale. Yay?

A couple of these tips I haven't tried or if I have tried them I haven't maintained them, so will give these a go. My main problem is that in outdoor photos I seem to glow white whilst those around me of a similar skin colour/tone (aka my family) look 10 shades darker and don't glow!!! Anyone found this and found a solution for it?

I have olive skin, but two of my Sisters have pale skin, so I will show them this very helpful article.

Great article thanks so much for these tips! I have always had pale skin, never seem to be able to go brown and remain ghostly white all year round. Will def be using the tips you have given thanks Beauty Review :) xx

I am not even that pale, but I thought that there were some really good tips here. Especially in Winter, I can get really washed out and dry looking skin so it's nice to see tips especially to deal with this. Cannot wait for summer though.

As a pale skin girl I totally agree with all these tips and tricks.. I didn't realise that it was my pale skin the reason for my dry skin! There ya go learning something new everyday :).. I always seem to manage to find a foundation to suit which is luckily I guess! And defiantly agree about not wearing light eyeshadow, although I do try and rock the nude lips :) hence the reason why mascara is one of my products I can't live without ;)

Great article! My favourite thing to do is to wear reds and berry lipsticks patted out to a stain and put the remaining lipstick on to my cheeks hahaha. It looks really effortless and beautiful.

Have to agree with 90% of this! I'm the oil slick queen rather than dry and pretty much live in sunscreen 24/7! I always find that even a slight pop of colour on my lips makes a huge difference to brightening up my face.
