The Beauty Editors gave me a funny look the other day when I said I use at least three bottles of conditioner to one bottle of shampoo. "How much bloody product are you using at a time?!" Natalie asked, aghast. Erm, like a palm full. My hair is long. She looked at me, huffed and then began the Re-education of Tabatha.
So from some of the top beauty editors, and corroborated by our resident Beauty Therapist, here we go. An easy-to-follow guide of just how much product we should be using.
Haircare Products
- Shampoo - a common mistake is using too much shampoo and then blaming your conditioner for weighing your hair down. For cropped to pixie length hair, you need around a 10c sized dollop, short-shoulder length hair you need around a $1 sized dollop and for long hair only a little more, around a 50c dollop - focus on the scalp and roots, not the lengths.
- Conditioner - you should only be focusing on the midlengths to ends anyway, so around the same size portion as your shampoo.
- Hair Serum - for short hair around a 10c coin. For long or super thick hair 2 x 10c coins - divide your hair in a centre part, front to back and use a 10c dollop on either side.
Skincare Products.
- Cleanser - 1 pump is enough of a foaming cleanser, otherwise you really only need a dollop the size of a 10c piece. Too much cleanser and you risk stripping your skin of its natural oils. Too little and you'll remain grubby.
- Exfoliator - a dab. Just a dab, no more than pea sized. Too much and you'll irritate your skin.
- Moisturiser - if you're using the right moisturiser for your skin you need no more than a 20c piece. Too much and your skin will be shiny and pores could clog.
- Eye Cream - a dab the size of a sunflower seed for each eye. That is all.
- Serum - a pea sized amount is more than enough for your whole face. If you use too much serum, not only are you wasting product (and money), you might experience discomfort or peeling from the overload of active ingredients sitting on your skin.
- Sunscreen - around a $1 coin for your face and a shot glass for your body! To be honest - you can never use too much sunscreen. In the words of Nat, slather that shiz on.
I am guilty of using way too much! I think I try to use everything up so I can buy more!
