We are modern girls in a modern world. And while our love of all things beauty will never change, technology does. So in light of the app explosion, we've been on the hunt and have found some pretty cool ones we think you might want on your phone.
Makeup Genius - L'Oreal Paris (Free)
Makeup Genius is like a virtual mirror on your phone. Once you've uploaded a photo of yourself, It enables you to test L'Oreal makeup looks on your own face before deciding which ones you want to buy. The app works for all ethnicities and skin tones, and is packed full of looks created by L'Oreal makeup artists.
This nifty app maps 64 points out on your face so the product options sit in just the right place. (You don't want to know what that gorgeous shade of ippy looks like on your chin right?) The app allows you to tilt your face forwards and backwards and allows for 400 lighting options.
Beauty Mirror - Modiface (Free + some pay-for add ons)
Like Makeup Genius, you upload photos, selfies and even videos, to Beauty Mirror and then begin your own airbrushing campaign. You can plump up your lips, erase wrinkles, narrow your nose and even raise your eyebrows.
This app has become something of a talking point, notably by critics who think it's encouraging users to want to change, rather than accept facial features. However Beauty Mirror claims it's actually boosting confidence by allowing users to make subtle changes before uploading a new photo to Facebook, saying the changes are almost unnoticable to anyone but the user. And hey, if we have to look at photoshopped and airbrushed models day after day, surely it's only fair we can add a little magic ourselves?
Flossie.com Concierge (Free)
You might have heard, or even used, New Zealand company Flossie.com.
They found a niche gap in the salon market, selling 'quiet time' appointments, at a discount. Customers can discover new establishments and treatments for less and Flossie's clients, the salons themselves, can fill up the appointment book. Salons also benefit from securing payment in advance, ensuring no-shows and cancellations no longer affect their profits.
Flossie have just released their mobile app providing the same service - with an expansion to Australia and the USA in their sights. So now if you're out and about and decide to get your eyebrows done, chances are you can find an appointment on the go.
Style Thief (Free)
Even apps benefit from celebrity endorsements. There are a few 'snap and steal' apps out there, but with actress Kate Bosworth behind it, Style Thief seems destined for success.
Have you ever admired a stranger's shoes, cute dress or handbag? This app allows you to upload a photo and search for similar items. You can even find retailers close to your current location, for those truly must have items!
Ignoring the slightly stalkerish premise of photographing strangers, we do love the idea of being able to find the exact item you want, without having to trawl countless stores!
Nail Studio - O.P.I (Free)
Unless you are like BR Zoe and literally have a nail station installed in your house, then this app is probably going to be an instant download for you!
Once you've adjusted the model's hands to fit your shape, nail length and skin tone, you can 'try on' every shade of O.P.I.
Need we say more?!
From fun to functional, these five apps only just scratch the surface of the new wave of beauty-orientated programs available. And with the beauty industry ever growing (it's recession-proof don't you know?!) we can only expect more and more innovative apps to be released.
Do you use beauty apps? What are your favourites? And if you haven't downloaded any yet, what kind of beauty app would you most want on your phone? Get chatting below!
