Beauty gets bouncy!

Cushions.  They started on the sofa, then they invaded the bedroom, and now they're taking over our makeup bags.  Yes really.

40% of Koreans now use a cushion foundation or BB cream and with the ever-increasing popularity of K-beauty it's time we found out just what the deal is with the bouncy beauty trend that is making it's way across the globe.

Imagine your favourite BB cream, CC cream or liquid foundation - it comes in a tube or bottle right?  Well these liquid products are now found in compacts but they're topped off with a sponge.  The sponge is the cushion of cushion beauty.  Now if you were to remove the sponge you'd see that your liquid base product was really watery - but this is as it's supposed to be.  All of the coverage and (generally higher) SPF are still there.

To get to your product you simply push down on the sponge and a thin layer of the product is evenly dispensed across the sponge.

The benefits of cushioned compacts are:

  • Less risk of liquid spills in your handbag
  • The portability makes on-the-go touch ups a dream
  • Less product is wasted as just the right amount is pushed through the sponge
  • The watered down formula is buildable and doesn't feel heavy.
  • Many come with the option of buying 'refills' - so you won't be paying for the compact every time!

And foundations aren't the only cushioned products now available - cushioned primers, pen concealers, blusher, eyeshadows are readily available in Korean beauty stores.  Lancome have released their Miracle Cushion Foundation in several countries now and the buzz is pretty good.  And let's be honest, when the big brands follow a trend is most definitely born.  So it looks like 2015 might just be the year of the cushion.

And if cushions aren't your thang you can still get in on the bouncy beauty trend with companies like Garnier and The Body Shop release products with bouncy, springy formulas.

Hmmm, maybe we better get on top of this trend and put some bouncy beauty products to the test - what do you think?

Have you tried a cushioned beauty product yet?  How did you find it?  If you haven't, what do you think of this trend?  Has it piqued your interest or is it just marketing hype?

The year of the bounce he he. Sounds like a decent way to better minimise product usage and get value for money at least?

This sounds amazing what's better then having a cushion for comfort now our makeup can be done in the comfort of a cushion compact... wow it makes sense actually for dispensing liquid. I want to try this as soon as I run out of my current items.

Sounds a great idea but how do you keep the sponge clean? If it is washable you'd use more product as it absorbs back into the sponge so potentially a sales gimmick rather than a great idea.

I love this idea...I think you could possibly use less, maybe. It sounds like a cleaner option and I'm keen to try. I use a flat top brush to apply my liquid foundation and I'm liking the result I get from that but if the application was as even using this method then I would be as happy. :-)

I would be keen to try it, but I reckon I'd end up going back to the old way of doing it.

Hmmm I'm sceptical if this is really a great new invention or just unnecessary...would like to hear how people like it, whether it's worth the hype.

OOOHHH I've not heard of this before! What a fantastic idea!! I love the sound of it for my Liquid Foundation, I think it would make it a lot easier to put on & save time! Well for me anyway as I apply it initially with a brush then pat it all down with a sponge.... I have to find one in an affordable brand! Anyone know if anyone has done one here yet?

Never heard or tried a cushion foundation - they sound like a great idea though! I like the fact that less product is wasted and that you can build it up slowly! This has definitely sparked my interest!

Any new innovation gets a yes from me. What about the higene factor? Very keen to try.

I've been using this BB cushion of Laneige and it's actually very convenient, light weighted and natural looking. Some tips: (1) don't press the sponge too hard (if you have an attached one with the box), I normally use a small brush. (2) if you feel like the cushion almost runs out of cream/foundation, don't worry, switch to the other side of the cushion, heaps of product left!

ooh I do like the sound of this. have never tired it nor heard of it before reading this article but it defiantly sounds like something I'd like to try.

My god that sounds awesome! I need this so bad since I spill stuff all the time.

10th February, 2015

Sounds intriguing, just wondering how hygienic it would be?

10th February, 2015

My bouncy belly will match with the products haha!! These sounds really interesting and I can't wait to see what's in store :)

I have two cushions one a primer and one a foundation, I love my primer one, the foundation one gives a beautiful flawless complexion and makes applying really easy and you can definitely build up the coverage, I didnt know Lancôme had brought one out definitely keen to find out more about that one :)
