Cushions. They started on the sofa, then they invaded the bedroom, and now they're taking over our makeup bags. Yes really.
40% of Koreans now use a cushion foundation or BB cream and with the ever-increasing popularity of K-beauty it's time we found out just what the deal is with the bouncy beauty trend that is making it's way across the globe.
Imagine your favourite BB cream, CC cream or liquid foundation - it comes in a tube or bottle right? Well these liquid products are now found in compacts but they're topped off with a sponge. The sponge is the cushion of cushion beauty. Now if you were to remove the sponge you'd see that your liquid base product was really watery - but this is as it's supposed to be. All of the coverage and (generally higher) SPF are still there.
To get to your product you simply push down on the sponge and a thin layer of the product is evenly dispensed across the sponge.
The benefits of cushioned compacts are:
- Less risk of liquid spills in your handbag
- The portability makes on-the-go touch ups a dream
- Less product is wasted as just the right amount is pushed through the sponge
- The watered down formula is buildable and doesn't feel heavy.
- Many come with the option of buying 'refills' - so you won't be paying for the compact every time!
And foundations aren't the only cushioned products now available - cushioned primers, pen concealers, blusher, eyeshadows are readily available in Korean beauty stores. Lancome have released their Miracle Cushion Foundation in several countries now and the buzz is pretty good. And let's be honest, when the big brands follow a trend is most definitely born. So it looks like 2015 might just be the year of the cushion.
And if cushions aren't your thang you can still get in on the bouncy beauty trend with companies like Garnier and The Body Shop release products with bouncy, springy formulas.
Hmmm, maybe we better get on top of this trend and put some bouncy beauty products to the test - what do you think?
Have you tried a cushioned beauty product yet? How did you find it? If you haven't, what do you think of this trend? Has it piqued your interest or is it just marketing hype?

The year of the bounce he he. Sounds like a decent way to better minimise product usage and get value for money at least?
