Beauty Starts Within - Give a little love

Article by BR Natalie.

“Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.” - Henry James

We might well be a tad obsessed with beauty products, but we are firm believers that beauty starts within.  And so we've got a little challenge for our members!

One of the best parts of being a Beauty Crew member is reading the comments on Facebook after we've issued invites.  You will always find a few posts full of excitement, happiness and love.  Ok, it's our job, and not an act of kindness per se (although we do it with a lot of love!), but knowing you've made someone's day is simply the best feeling to take home with you each night.

So we got to thinking.  Beauty starts within.  Making people smile feels good.  Feeling good inside shows on the outside.  So how about this week, we all make someone's day with a random act of kindness?  It doesn't have to be a huge, press-worthy deed.  Just do something nice for someone else.  Here's some ideas:

  1. Pay for two coffees instead of one, and secretly shout the person behind you in the queue a drink.
  2. Write a message on the fridge telling your loved one why they rock.
  3. Put a couple of dollars in an envelope, tape it to a vending machine and shout somebody a sugar high.
  4. Send a note of appreciation to someone who has made a difference in your life.  Friend.  Family.  Teacher.
  5. Got a coupon you won't use?  Leave it next to the product instore!
  6. Compliment great customer service.  You don't need to leave a $100 tip, but why not make a point of telling the floor manager their staff member is a keeper?
  7. Donate used books to your local nursing home - or go and read one to a resident.
  8. Hold the door for someone!  It only takes an extra second to be courteous.
  9. Ask if you can help.  Is a colleague looking a little stressed?  A stranger looking a little lost? Sometimes just the offer of help is all it takes.
  10. Pay someone a compliment.  Like someone's lipstick? Tell them, even if you don't know them!

Now you know we wouldn't ask you to do anything we wouldn't do ourselves - so throughout the week we are going to do some random acts of kindness ourselves.  We're going to do random points drops and give out some spot prizes - and you don't need to do a thing to be in to win!

So Beauties - are you going to join us and do a random act of kindness this week? Why not come back and tell us what you've done to make someone smile and inspire others to make their own random act of kindness too?

“Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.” - Scott Adams.

Love doing this even if you don't see people's reactions. I pay for the car behind me on a toll road or if somebody is fumbling for change pay their parking meter. Love the coffee idea.

I have gathered together a number of new items I have either won or been given as promotional items and gifted them to a young mum to raffle for her local playgroup.

I do my best to compliment people whether on their clothes, or recently someone's nail art or makeup or whatever I see them doing that's admirable. People spend time and money to look good and a compliment could mean the world to them. It costs nothing from you so why not be generous? I also like to thank store assistants for being helpful it took them time to find out that information for me or hunt around for something or get and label a sample for me to take home and they had a good helpful even if I didn't buy the product.

Someone pulled up in a car behind me as I was leaving my park, so gave them the wee ticket I had paid for.

I really like reading everyone's comments, being sweet and kind to everyone makes me feel all warm and mushy inside :) I need to think of something to do extra special this week. I try to do kind things like give extras of stuff away to friends and I'm teaching my children to be kind and giving as well. In the last few weeks, I've started donating cans of animal food to the spca drop off box in countdown and I also make sure to donate for any fundraisers that are outside.

Had the loveliest surprise of receiving our works 'Random Act of Kindness' Award today, gave me such warm fuzzies to have them acknowledged! I do try :) I don't tend to do 1 & 3 as I can't afford it, but I definitely do 4, 6 8, 9 and 10 alot. Takes so little effort!

Such a lovely idea; I hope I do actually achieve this at least once a day, in some way or another.

I got up this morning and decided to sort out my clothes 2 rubbish bags later and I have a very happy Friend who is over the moon with her new outfits.:)

I'm in the process of cleaning out my wardrobe, instead of selling the good clothing on trade me, i'm going to donate it to the SPCA local shop, and put the rest in my sons schools rag bin, as the school gets a big donation when the bin is full!

On Saturday after I finished work, I helped a dear old lady walk to the toilet, waited for her and then brought her a cuppa at the cafe. I always try to do RAOK every week. There is a homeless man who sleeps behind my work in our carpark and my boss and I always leave him water & some sort of food. If im opening up the shop, I'll make him a hot drink to start his day:-) RAOK can change a prperson's day/life. And you never know...that person might 'pay it forward' too and so the circle of RAOK continues :-)

I've been doing some decluttering and offering toys and clothes my kids kids have grown to others who may need them, its a nice feeling to give without the need for anything in return :) I think it's such a great idea to rally everyone to do random acts of kindness!!

This is such an amazing read BR! I love the tip about leaving coupons next to products. Shouting coffee is always a good one, there are so many coffee fiends at my work and it always brightens the day when someone shouts you a coffee, and even when you do the same for someone else it give me warm fuzzies too :)

I try to do them as often as I can. Did them with my kids for a few weeks. Pinned ideas to my pinterest board and we picked ones the kids could help with. I also got some cards printed, with a rainbow, just to make it pretty and special because I'm a geek LOL. It's such a good feeling, even if you don't see the person that gets it, you still get warm fuzzies ;)

This is such a happy (inspiring!) article! I'm definitely going to try and think about doing little RAOK during this coming week! I love holding doors open for people (and vice versa hehe), but I'm going to try some of the other suggestions out :) xx

That's really kind of both of you. Some businesses would just tell a homeless person to find a new place instead of helping them.

Thanks ladies :-) & your right, a lot of people would just ignore them but im naturally a giving person and non judgemental. I have never walked a day in their shoes and have no idea what they may have been through in their lives xxx
