The other day Queenie burst into BRHQ brimming with news.
“Have you heard about the candle that’s a moisturiser?”
“Um, what?”
“There’s this candle, and it’s a moisturiser!”
Cue me looking at her like she’d grown a second head, unable to fathom how a candle could work as a moisturiser.
“Um… so you roll it over your body?” I replied, wondering why this woman kept me on (clearly for the laughs…).
Queenie patiently explained the concept behind a candle that is also a moisturiser to me, but being a curious pixie I had to get on Google and find out more for myself – because quite frankly I just couldn’t bring myself to believe that a candle could be a moisturiser too – all that hot drippiness? Well it all sounded a bit ‘Body of Evidence’ to me… which it turns out it kind of is… sort of…
The theory behind lotion candles (also sometimes known as massage candles) is that you light them, enjoy their delicious fragrance, and then after a bit you extinguish the flame, scoop up some of the warm liquid and massage it into your body.
So how do you not get burnt to bits? Turns out that it’s low burn point means it become a delightfully pleasant oil that’s warm to the touch and due to the perfect temperature sinks into the skin when massaged in.
And what makes it so nourishing? Ingredients often mentioned include cocoa butter, shea butter, almond oil, argan oil, and coconut oil – so basically all the good stuff you’d find in a body lotion, the only difference is that it’s combined with soy wax and turned into a product that does double duty.
So not really Body of Evidence at all then… in saying that after another quick Google you can find massage candles readily available in New Zealand adult stores, iykwim. But they’re also available through other avenues too, such as here, here and you can make your own here.
So tell me… was the concept of a candle that doubles as a moisturiser new to you too? Have you discovered these before? Have you already tried them? What’s your thoughts on them? Chat away!
