MOREISH is a natural, effective new skincare range, developed for women who not only care about beauty, but also believe in the kind of beauty that's more than skin deep caring for others. We spoke to Senior Brand Manager Emma Duncan to find out more about the company that donates to a local NZ charity with every product sold.
Tell us a bit about yourself
I grew up in Tauranga but I’ve spent the majority of my working career in Auckland. I juggle working full time with my family of two beautiful girls aged 3 and 6.
What is your background? How long have you been in the Beauty Industry?
I started my career in the FMCG industry working mainly with New Zealand made food brands.
I’ve always been passionate about beauty, skincare and cosmetics so 2 years ago I jumped at the chance to work at API Consumer Brands managing the new natural skincare brand MOREISH.
How did the idea to launch your own Brand come about?
MOREISH was developed by a team at API Consumer Brands over a 4 year period.
We wanted to develop an affordable skin care range that was formulated with the best ingredients nature has to offer.
We wanted to keep our formulas untainted by any of the synthetic and petroleum derived chemicals that have become so commonplace in skin care these days. So MOREISH is formulated without: petrochemicals, synthetic colours or fragrances, mineral oils, triethanolamine, sodium lauryl sulphate or formaldehyde releases. We use naturally approved preservative systems and there are no parabens or phenoxyethanol in our products.
We wanted to do right by the environment, so where possible our ingredients are sustainably sourced, our packaging is recyclable and we do not test on animals.
We wanted to give more back to the community. By making Argan Oil our star ingredient, we not only have produced an exceptional skin care range, but also support the Berber tribeswomen of Morocco who produce the oil. We also make an annual donation to a local New Zealand charity each year.
What is the philosophy behind your brand? What does it stand for?
It’s about giving more back. We developed for the range for women who not only care about beauty, but also believe in the kind of beauty that's more than skin deep - caring for others.
MOREISH skincare is based on four simple philosophies, which we call our four mores. No ingredient is selected for our products unless it holds true to these philosophies.

More Empowering - We believe that true beauty is more than skin deep. Every MOREISH product sold helps to improve the welfare of the Berber women of Morocco. We also donate 50c from the sale of every pack to a local New Zealand charity chosen by our customers.
More Caring – Argan Oil helps regenerate your skin cells, and by using it you are also helping to regenerate the endangered Argan forests of Morocco.
To many people, you would have their dream job, what is the best thing about working for such a gorgeous beauty brand?
The ability to create new and exciting products. Every woman wants to feel and look beautiful so it’s wonderful to be able to play a small part in helping them to feel that way.
It sounds like you have a really glamorous job; do you rub shoulders with the rich and famous?
No not really. Moreish is still a fairly young brand compared to our competition. I love to hear about people using our products – whether they are famous or not!
What is your best selling product?
Our 100% Pure Argan Oil.
What is it about this product that makes it so popular?
It’s so versatile as an intensive nourishing boost for your hair, skin and nails.
It is an amazing revitalising night serum!
What’s your favourite product from your range?
Oh, I have so many! I love the Body Lotion. It rubs into your skin so easily and leaves your skin feeling silky smooth. As a bonus, it smells delicious too with its natural frangipani fragrance.
What advice would you give to someone reading this who would like to do what you’ve done?
Set yourself a goal and persevere until you get there!
What’s been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
Working with a brand that gives so much back – to the local community and to the source where we get our ingredients from.
What has been the biggest challenge you've faced?
As a small New Zealand made brand, we compete against numerous big global brands with big marketing budgets. It’s always a challenger to stand out amongst those brands who spend a lot of money on TV and in magazines!
What does a normal day for you consist of?
My job is very varied but I do always start the day with a coffee! Then it’s into the office to check emails – answering consumers and stores queries. A lot of my day can be tied up in meetings, working on packaging designs and sourcing, marketing materials as well as working on wider business issues.
I also work closely with our R&D chemists to identify new ingredients, global trends and to develop new products for our loyal consumers.
Its busy, but fun!
