It had to happen. The beauty world, much like the fashion world, is all about swings and roundabouts. What comes up must come down. What goes left eventually will go right. Heck, you could even say the fashion and beauty worlds are the original recylers, but do so by using ideas rather than packaging (although that too is big these days). So what's coming back in a big way?
Gird yourselves, guys and gals.
Big, bold makeup.
We are talking full face fabulosity. Contour under the chin, on the cheeks, forehead, down the nose, around the lips. Cream highlight striping down the nose, on the chin, under the eye area, between the brows. Lip liner. Lipstick. Lip gloss. All of it, all at once, but using different colours to add shade and dimension. Eyes that have half a palette worth of product on them. Big winged eyeliner. Lashing of mascara, followed by the application of long, lush, luxe false lashes. And that's just some of it, because you can't forget the cream blush and bronzer, followed by the powder blush and bronzer to set. And an absolute must is the cream or powder highlighter on your cheekbones, down your nose, above your eyebrows, below your eyebrows, in the corners of your eyes, on your Cupid's bow anywhere where you want to glimmer and gleam. Followed by powder to set, followed by setting spray to help it melt altogether and set some more.
Oh, and if you're not priming, then you're criming. Yes, the old BR saying that we were willing to let go hath returned. Oh, and we're not talking one primer - we're talking multiple primers to deal to the different areas of your face - smoothing, pore filling, moisturising.
As to who is responsible for bringing this trend back? One can't say. It's all feeling a little "chicken or the egg" to me. I started to see YouTubers, who'd gone as natural and minimal as a beauty guru can get, going ham with the makeup once more, but then I also noticed that full coverage foundation was making a comeback, along with contouring kits and matte liquid lipsticks (which for a hot moment seemed to have gone the way of the dodo). All I know is that the revolution has begun. Barely there makeup is being shunted out the door in favour of more is more.
Dancing in your seat with excitement at the thought of getting creative with your cosmetics? I have one tip: if you do love going full glam, make sure you double cleanse at the end of the day. Use a cleansing balm or oil to get the majority of the makeup off, then follow it up with a gentle cleanser for the final remnants. Your skin will thank you for it.
For those not into it? Your minimalistic time will come again. Or you can keep rocking the barely there look. It's your face. You do you. Trends be damned.
So, are you a fan of the full face? Are you ready to rock it once more? Will this be your first go at going all in? Or did you never stop going full beat in the first place? Hit up our poll and get chatting below!
It's a bit of mix for me. Now that we are in the colder weather, I do wear quite a lot of makeup to work when I'm going into the office, which is three days a week.
The other two weekdays, I work from home. I have quite a few video calls, so I do still wear makeup, it's just a lot more minimal. And in the weekends, it's even more minimal.
