Blending Eyeshadow - Do you find it difficult?

Remember when you were a little girl and your mum would let you try her makeup?  One little sweep with a brush or sponge and you felt like the most beautiful princess ever.

Then you grow up and realise there is so much more to it than that!  Rarely does one shade make a look, and how do you know what shades compliment and what shades clash?  Let alone learning where to place each shade and how to blend correctly!

Avon's True Colour Eyeshadow Quad is designed to take the hassle out of eyeshadow by providing a four-step system in complimenting shades. The quad promises long lasting colour and is fade and crease resistant.

So why not tell us - have you mastered the art of blending yet?  How do you blend, do you use a brush, a sponge or even your fingers?  How do you pick the shades? And do you ever just wear one colour?

For years I only wore one or two colours on my lids. The whole transition and that kind of thing was not what I did.

I'm slowly getting the hang of it just need to have a proper set as don't have one yet but it's totally fun practising

I'm trying to learn by watching some you tube clips, definitely not confident at applying eye shadow yet!

Oh so much trouble with blending. Just dont know what to do or what products to buy. I saw these in their catalog the other day and I thought what a great idea! Keen as to read reviews, even keener to trial :-)

I've tried many times, even after watching many YouTube videos about it but I can never get it to look right lol

I can do the blending ok is I have a good brush BUT it's the knowing what colours to put together that I struggle with - and then once I work out the colours I have no idea where to put each one or how much of each one, but I get the blending done well once I have the rest figured out

I am an absolute novice when it comes to blending. I have resorted to buying eyeshadow trios/quads with the numbered guides to help me out but even then I have realised there is a real art to it! I am learning that having patience is amazing when it comes to blending my eyeshadow haha

I find the key is having enough colours in close range of each other - which isn't always easy! I guess that is what makes quads great especially when they have a number system like this one!

I am yet to master this technique!

I'm terrible at blending my eyeshadow and finding shades that match! I have one of those big eyeshadow pallets with about 20 shades but it always takes me ages to figure out what shades to blend together. I mainly end up using the same colour combinations frequently as my usual/"favourite" combo as they are the only combos I've found to go well together and never have time for experimenting! I often wear one shade because of this too, hehe. I think I will look into getting some compacts with matching shades already. I know I shouldn't be lazy and should find time to experiment, as you know practise makes perfect. I tend to use a sponge to apply but have been told a brush is better...

I only have two colours, so I tend to stick with a simple swipe + eyeliner, or at best playing with two. I've sort of read the theory behind how to blend it, light to dark as this palette shows (perfect for beginners!) to contour the eye beautifully and subtly, but never had enough colours to try it out (and also think it'd be a pain to have like four eyeshadows in my bag in case of freshening ups that are needed) so would LOVE to hear palette recommendations to try. Thanks for having such awesome trials all the time, BR, and I'm so excited about this one! :D

Well I do try but sometimes I end up looking a bit overdone, so I tend to stick to just one light colour on the bottom and a darker one on the top. I use a brush, I don't like the sponge applicators which usually come with the shadow, if find you can't blend with them, the brush is must better. I like the look of the numbering system on the Avon quad - should take away some of the guesswork!

I can blend - as long as the colours required are light brown, mid brown and dark brown and as long as they are applied lightly with a brush and as long as blending means giving a quick rub with a finger and hoping that nobody looks too closely at me ...

I'm terrible at it and struggle to get both eyes looking even. I've even been out and not noticed till I went to the bathroom that I'd mixed up the colours, really need better lighting in the bathroom.G
