Bold Blush: Beaut or Bomb?

Have you ever seen a beauty trend and wondered, "why are they trying to make this a thing? When will the great 'they' realise it's never going to be a thing?". The reason I ask is because that's my feeling about bold blush, aka contour blush.

You see, while I was perusing beauty sites recently I saw "bold blush" being touted as the hot new look. Except... this isn't the first time that I've read this in recent years. Not by a long shot. Putting on my detective hat I did a quick and easy Google and, surely enough, pretty much every year since 1918, bold blush has been hailed as the next big makeup look.

Now, when I talk about bold blush, I'm not talking about using a colour that's a little more out there than the usual - such as a lilac or even a yellow (remember when that was a thing?), but I mean the look where heavy pigment is applied from above the brow, down the temple, then onto the cheek area.

Don't get me wrong, I love how this looks from an editorial point of view. It's interesting when seen on a model in a magazine or under the bright lights of a runway. However I'm not sure that it transitions well in real life. And I genuinely can't think of a single person I know who could pull this off without looking like a clown.

Is that to say you shouldn't try if it's something you love? Heck no. I'm all for you do you, but I'm also here to be that little boy in the Emperor's New Clothes who calls out the truth - and that is: bold blush contour is a look that isn't going to become the norm. I mean, they've tried now for five years to make it a thing and I've yet to see a person at a cafe, at school pickup, or even in a high end fashion store, rocking the look. Instead I believe this is a trend destined for Insta, YouTube and TikTok clicks and views only.

Or maybe I'm wrong. Which brings me to this week's poll...

So, my pretties, do tell... Is the bold blush contour look for you?

Do you rock it on the daily? Or is this a no go? Hit up our poll and chat below!

No thanks it's hard enough dealing with a hot flush let alone lots of bright blusher,my cheeks certainly don't need this!

I never use blush, and I don't think I've seen anyone with this look.

Nope! just a tiny bit of blush is perfect otherwise you look like a baboon's bum

I have naturally rosy cheeks but if I put foundation on I do use a bit of Lipstick for blush these days. I did like the elf blushers that had like a highlight in them. I'm not sure what blush are the best for my skin and when you change your hair colour alot I think it means your makeup needs altering too

I think it would look a bit much for every day. For the catwalk or theatre it would be fine.

8th February, 2022

Yep, great for the catwalk, but I'd definitely just look like a clown. It belongs in the same arena as wearable art, imho.

Nah makes me look silly ahahahahaha

Looks good on young attractive people, but not me, I like just a subtle creamy blusher.

I've been doing my blush up to my temple area lot lately . I think with a full make up look it looks stunning. It's a love it or leave it thing .

7th February, 2022

It can look nice on some models in a magazine, I much prefer a subtle blush.

Hell no!

A wee bit for me but not too much

7th February, 2022

It looks good on other people but not on me. I'm too pale.
