So I was buying wine a few Friday's ago at the supermarket and there was that weird moment when the checkout operator paused, scanned my face, and I knew what was coming...
"May I see some ID, please." Along with a nervous smile.
Apparently people get angry when they're asked for ID. Which is ridiculous, aside from the fact they legally have to, if they think you look under 25 - even if you are under 25 - it's a good thing. Especially when you're 38 years of age. I told the woman I loved her. Bought my wine. Then drank a glass that evening with a grin on my face.
It got me thinking though... this is the second time in the past few months that this has happened. What's changed? I don't have the taut and luminous skin of those younger. I have wrinkles around my eyes and on my forehead. There's no way I look 25 or any year below that.
Then I read about the new K-beauty eyebrow trend that apparently makes us look younger. It's called 'boy brows' or 'straight brows'.
I kind of have those. When not smiling my brows are pretty darn straight, with only a slight natural arch. And this look has been emphasised of late as plucking and gussying up my brows have been at the bottom of my life list.
So what are these boy brows and how do why do they give the impression of a youthful glow?
Basically, as their other name says, they're brows that are straight. There's no, or very little, arch. Yes, an arch can open the eye and lift the face, but it can also be overdone and therefore more aging. However a straight brow is considered youthful because it harks back to the days when we were young and didn't bother or know how to pluck, so we just had this softeness going on.
Achieving the look of a straight brow is relatively easy too. Just grab a brow pencil, something that gives a more natural look, like the Bilion Dollar Brows Universal Brow Pencil, then fill in your brows as you usually would, and if you've an arch you'd like to minimise do feathery strokes to fill it in. Avoid bolding up your brows and harsh lines.
Who knew de-aging one's self could be that easy?
So, are you a fan of the boy brow? Do you rock one? Is it something you're tempted to try? Or are you all about hte arch, baby? Chat away!
I have quite sparse eyebrows, not from plucking them as I have never needed to,they just always grew like that.I have always longed for thicker brows but sadly not to be the case for me.When I was a baby people used to ask my Mum whether she plucked my eyebrows lol,as if!
