Another year, another 365 days of revelling in beauty products. So what were our makeup must-haves? The team revealed all…
Queenie:
The Maybelline Nude Palette was a standout this year. I love how versatile it is. I bought it after the reviews came in and since then I’ve travelled round the world with it. I especially love how it can take you from day to night. I’ve recreated the look Jah put together for us a few times now, and whenever I have people have complimented me. This is one of those products that when I use it up I shall be repurchasing.
BR Nat:
When Karen Murrell’s Racy Rata lipsticks arrived for one of 2015's Beauty Vaults, I was quite taken by the dark, sultry colour. So I went out and bought one, committing a rare lipstick habit...breaking my love for nothing but nudes. When I first tried it on I was surprised - the depth of colour was more raspberry on my lips. But oh do I love it! I feel racy wearing it. Depending on what look I pair Racy Rata with, I can be girly or daring. You'll want a good base to ensure the colour applies evenly, and I find using a universal lip liner does wonders to keep this baby in place. But the extra prep and effort is worth it for a beautiful, natural lip colour, from a fab NZ brand!
BR Amelia:
Is a primer considered makeup? Hmmm. Let's go with it. Because L'Oreal Lumi Magique Primerhas actual magical powers. I wear it daily and I don't know what I did before it. Whether I'm going for a full face, or a light makeup day, this beauty makes any other product a dream to apply. I mean how can BB cream get easier to slap on? But it does! My makeup lasts longer and, more importantly, looks better for longer.
But do you know what I love most about this little gem? You can use it by itself, with no other makeup and the effects are amazing. They should market it as a skin blurrer, honestly you apply it and your skin just looks healthy, with a soft dewy finish. I don't like shiny skin, but I find ridiculously matte finishes to be unnatural. This leaves you with a happy medium - whether you use it under makeup or on it's own, your skin glows.
I love this product so much, I would even pay more than the frankly reasonable $40! It's become a daily staple in my routine, and trust me, I don't let products in to the daily routine easily!
BR Zoe:
My make up go to item at the moment is my Too Faced Natural Eyes palette. This is a neutral eyeshadow palette but it can even create smoky evening looks with some good layering. It contains nine matte and shimmer shadows. I love it as it’s a compact, travel friendly sized palette - where I go she goes. It also comes with some instructions of how to create 3 really easy looks for day or after dark. The colours blend together really easily creating flawless eyes, which lasts all day. I love all of the Naked palettes, however I find myself grabbing this one for a day time look - it seems way easier and quicker to create the appropriate look.
BR Tabatha:
This year I’ve been glowing like a buggy worm thing in a cave. It’s been the year of the highlight and my favourite product has been the Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer. Its champagne shimmer sucks me in every single time. It’s so sparkly and gleamy with just a hint of glitter. Even better I can use it on my eyelids and I especially love how it looks in the inner corners of my eyes. A multi-purpose product that will never go out of fashion as far as I’m concerned – even if the highlight trend eventually does…
As for me?
Nars Sheer Glow, you are magic in a bottle. The last year I’ve had a nightmare with foundation. It’s sat funny, gone white in my pores, disappeared completely, been patchy, orangey… It’s been a baaaaad time. Then on a spur of the moment visit to Mecca Maxima in Oz I found Nars Sheer Glow placed in my hands, then on my face, then in my bag. Since that day I haven’t looked back. I love that Sheer Glow is what it say it is – it’s a sheer and light formulation and it really does make your skin glow. And unlike other sheer foundations I’ve tried it gives great coverage and has staying power. I’m a total makeup tart, yet I don’t see my head being turned towards any other foundation anytime soon.
And there we have it. The BR Crew’s favourite makeup products of 2015. So do tell? What was yours?
L'Oreal Lumi Magique primer love, love, love it!
