Sarah Dow, aka BR member neninoir , is back with another tutprial - this time inspired by the Dia de los Muertos tradition - the Sugar Skull.

Get following Sarah Dow Makeup Artistry on Instagram and Facebook.

This make up can be created by using everyday makeup and in any colour you choose, there is no need to go and buy anything special ~ its pretty much just eyeshadows and black eyeliner :)

What you will need ~

  • Foundation, something nice and pale works wonderfully. I used Kryolan Cream foundation in TV White
  • 2  Purple eyeshadows, one darker than the other. Ben Nye Ultra Violet and Banshee cosmetics in Magic
  • 1 Hot pink eyeshadow. Ben Nye Azalea
  • Black eyeshadow.  Make up Geek Corrupt
  • Black eyeliner. Collection cosmetics Fast stroke eyeliner and 'I am Sin' gel eyeliner
  • Mascara. Eye of Horus
  • Lipstick . Jeffree Star Star in Prom Night

Step 1
  1. Start with a clean face that has been primed.
  2. Apply foundation and set with a powder.
  3. Outline when you want your lines to go. For this tutorial I used a light brown eye pencil, but a flesh toned pencil would be perfect as its easier to hide.
  4. I went quite large in the eye department.  Use your natural eye socket as a guide as to where to go.
  5. Extend the lip out using a pencil, just start at the outer corners and draw upwards. ( trying to get both sides as even as possible)

~ Look in the mirror and study where your lines are ~ its easiest to change your design now than later on.

Step 2

  1. Full in the whole eye area with your lighter purple eyeshadow. Then using the tip of a flat shader brush, go around the line and blend the darker purple inwards towards the lighter purple. This will create depth and make your whole eye area more interesting.
  2. Give yourself a pink smokey eye, feel free to place pink  all over the eye area up to your brows.
  3. Line your top lash line with a black eyeshadow.
  4. Apply a couple of coats of black mascara.
Step 3
  1. Using your eyeliner ( I really like the Collection cosmetics one for this as its super stiff and easy to control) create half circles / lacing around your eye area. This does take a while so take your time, the end result will be worth it.
  2. You can fill them in with any colour you choose, but I went for alternating pink & purple lacing. In between each little ‘half circle' place a small dot. Dots are really simple too do but add that something extra.
  3. Full in your nose with a gel liner.
Step 4
  1. Carve out your check bones with your pencil. Start at your ears then going down towards your mouth. Put a slight curve at the end to create the illusion of depth & a hollow cheek bone.
  2. Shade under your check bones blending downwards with your hot pink shadow.
  3. Go over the line by your mouth with a black eyeliner and then create some half moons / C shapes along the line.
  4. Apply lipstick and a touch of blush, check in the mirror again & clean up any lines. Done :)
