It's time for a Kellie Confession.
Before becoming a BR addict I had never once used a setting powder in my life. The truth is, I feared it. After a terrible experience with a powder foundation (think patchy and clingy and a tad mask-like) I had decided anything flesh coloured and powdery was not to touch my skin, and setting powder fell into that category.
Enter Beauty Review, the Beauty Review community and a new Beauty Vlogger-watching obsession. Suddenly it appeared I had well misinformed myself and actually had to have, or at very least try, setting powder in order to discover it's amazing properties. So I did. I picked up Rimmel's Stay Matte Pressed Powder because it rates its socks off, and with a quivering kabuki brush dusted it over my freshly-foundationed and concealed face.
Well, colour me converted. So what's the big deal about setting powder? Why do you need one in your life? Read on...
First of all, it helps your foundation stick around longer. My skin tends to eat makeup, so I need all the help I can get, and a dusting of pressed powder post-foundation and concealer application really works wonders.
Next - as the name suggests - it mattifies. So if you're prone to a little shine you can use a dusting of setting powder to help reduce said shine. You don't even need to powder your entire face if that's not your thing, just dusting the areas prone to oiliness can make a difference.
I'm a fan of translucent pressed powders, a hangover from my previous powder foundation experience, but a good setting powder matched to your skin tone can also provide a little extra coverage, even out skin and further help to hide imperfections.
A setting powder can also save the day if you've gone a touch overboard with the bronzer or blush and need to tone it down, just load up your brush and get buffing.
One tip? If you do find you've overpowdered and you're not willing to wipe the lot off and start again... reach for a setting spray and get spritzing. More often than not I find this somehow calms the powder farm down, removes cake-face and sets me up for a great makeup day.
So, are you a fan of setting powder? Which is your favourite and why? Or are you yet to discover the gloriousness of a good one? If not, why not? Chat away!
I've been wanting to try setting powders for ages. You've definitely convinced me now kellie
