Oh winter, you come along with a woooomph of cool air, bringing with you dull skies and seriously drab fashion. Don’t get me wrong, I own as much black as the next New Zealander and in winter I fair drown in it, but spring has arrived! The wee minx has been slowly blooming from the cold depths, adding pops of colour back into our grey lives. Soft lush greens, the prettiest blossom pinks, light blue skies - it’s all seriously swoon-worthy and a great reminder that we too should be upping our colour game at this time of year.
Which, to be fair, is easier said than done, especially if you’re fond of a monochromatic colour scheme. However we believe adding colour is easy, it doesn’t have to be a lot and it doesn’t have to be bold and bright, in fact, why not get into the swing of spring and pop some perfectly pretty pastels into your day-to-day look?
Not ready to revamp your wardrobe? No worries! Why not add a hint of colour by accessorising. Think a pale turquoise skinny belt with a crisp white dress. A lavender necklace paired with jeans and an open-necked black shirt. A rose coloured pair of ballet flats or a gentle lemon handbag can bring a delightful dash of colour to your look.
You could even let your nails make a statement by getting creative with pastel nail polish. Try a pastel ombre look, French nails with pastel tips, water marbling, or get artsy and create a spring theme using seasonal flowers like cherry blossoms or daffodils.
If it’s your face you’d like to add a little extra pizazz too, start with a pastel blush in pink, peach or coral to create an elegant flush of colour. If you want to take it to the next level, literally, apply a pastel colour across your eyelids. Try a mint green or soft blue, a velvety light purple, or get ultra-girly with a sweep of baby-pink. If you’re really wanting to branch out a pastel lipstick can look truly sensational, but if you’re attempting the matte kind be sure to prep your lips with a good exfoliator first, or you can embrace the trend without diving in the deep end by slicking on a sheer pastel lip colour in pink, lilac or coral.
A look that’s been hot for a while now and shows no sign of going anywhere (yay!) is pastel hair. Hues of purple, pink, green and blue have been rocking the runways and the red carpet. And now you can get the without going to the salon, thanks to Schwarzkopf’s Live Colour Pastels. This super cool range of colour is an easy way to get the look and all it takes is a couple of minutes. You can even get experimental by only using it on parts of your hair, creating streaks, chunks, or even a subtle ombre. It’s up to you.
So will you be going pastel this spring? Are you already fan of wearing colours? What are your tips and tricks for those of us who like to keep our style simple but would like to amp it up? Chat away…
