Do you generally buy palettes?

Palettes.  They conjure up an image of a professional make up artist creating a masterpiece on a client's face.  But how useful are they for your average non professional?

When it comes to makeup there are those who like to experiment every day and those that like to stick to what they know suits them.  Likewise some people prefer to stick to one brand and others prefer to mix it up.  There are those that love palettes and those that prefer mixing and matching with singles.

Palettes and makeup sets have a way of dividing people.  Some believe you'll try things you'd never normally consider, others hate the thought of paying and not being sure they'll use all of the contents.  Some palettes offer better value for money than if you were to buy the pieces individually, others cost more but feature a fancy carry box.  And then of course, there's those wicked, wicked sets that feature a limited edition product.

I own mostly singles.  Sure I have the obligatory nude palettes but everything else, highlighters, blush, bronzers, lipsticks etc are solo products.  I occasionally buy quads, if I like all of the shades.  Otherwise, nope, it's not going to happen, I mean, what's the point of buying something when it's practically a guarantee they'll be at least one unused pan?!

Other people in the office, not naming names but one in particular rhymes with Dixie, are palette obsessed.  When a range suddenly becomes available in palette form the office is abuzz.  When said item goes on sale, well, be prepared to be shushed and flapped at until said item is secured.

Are you a palette or a separates girl?  Why?

I always buy palletes because you have every colour you could need to create a bunch of different looks. I always have my go too colours that I always use but I love having the opportunity to grow and push myself to use the colours I never would have picked out as singles.

I am 100% a palette girl! I really dislike singles, because it's so much effort opening up multiple shadows when I can just pick up a palette and have a cohesive colour selection all there for me. I don't mind singles that you can put into a z palette (or similar) but I am an absolute sucker for ready made palettes! x

Palettes all the way. I find it so much easier to decide which colours will work together when they're all in one, rather than fiddling around with a collection of singles and getting it all wrong. Have waaaaay too many palettes though!

I like palettes because it encourages you to use shades you normally wouldn't. Try it sometime! I've discovered that certain shades I never gravitate to can actually suit me and harmonise with even my favourites. Theses unused shades have made me purchase different shades of all sorts of products. Make up is fun and it's awesome to experiment. Perfect for a ladies night or if you're bored or sick and don't need to show your face in case that ugly as eyeshadow really doesn't tickle your fancy.

I actually only use a few shades of eyeshadow so it's probably more economical for me to use singles however I prefer palettes just because I have everything all in one place and im always in a rush when I do my makeup and can't be bothered getting multiple eyeshadowd out haha.

Oh dear I thought I would say I'm a palette hoarder, but then I have half of the makeup Geek singles and a excessive array of single Colourpop shadows as well.

I think If good singles (makeup geek, morphe etc) were more easily accessible here I would like them but I just buy a palette then can take that on the go- I don't have heaps but I adore the ones I do have

I don't tend to buy them, however depending on the colours I think they are a good idea. I would probably use up the favs though and be left with the other colours I don't use often haha

I love pallets! But you are right at least a few shades go unused. I even have beautiful cheek pallets and at least one shade is unused because it does not work with my super pale skin. I have resently moved onto making my own pallets with a Z pallet and single deppoted shadows.

I think I like pallets because they are net and tidy where as single shadows are all different sizes and a pain to store and also travel with.

Oh I do enjoy a good pallette. The options you have, the colours to choose from and the looks you can acheive. I take my time when picking a palette, weighing up what I will use and the ones I would not. Singles tend to get lost and fall to the bottom of the make up box.

I like palettes. There are so many varieties and I like having the option of being able to mix things up. With singles, I feel that I am quite limited.

i'm very much a palettes girl but when i do find a single shade i love and pan from a palette i hunt it down and buy it - the latest one i did this with was Urban Decay - Bordello

19th November, 2016

I have all of the Urban Decay Naked palettes and I love them! I always mix and match looks using them and prefer lots of option

19th November, 2016

I have a couple of palettes but tend to not use them in preference to single shades (I haven't chosen a palette for myself yet these are either gifts or in beauty boxes).

19th November, 2016

I Iike to do all kinds of looks so I love palettes. I usually use all of the colours at some stage so it's a better option for me than singles
