Do You Like To Clash Your Colours?

The beauty world, like the fashion world, is a realm of swings and roundabouts. Trends come, they go, they come back again, and more often than not we can almost predict what's to come simply by imagining we're in topsy turvy land.

Take one of the most recent makeup trends: monochromatic makeup. A delightful trend where we took one colour and used it on our lips, eyes and cheeks to create a stunningly simple, refined look.

Now, if one were to look into a crystal ball with flipping that trend in mind, one would have seen the latest makeup trend coming a mile way:

Colour clashing.

Yes, the latest look du jour involves taking colours that don't go together and putting them on your face for all to see. Easy, right?

Well... While we like to say there are no rules in makeup, that you should do you, there are what I like to think of as excellent thoughts one might want to keep in mind in order to not look like a toddler who has gotten into their mum's makeup and had a free for all on their face. For example...

If you'd like to colour clash your makeup, try and keep the tones similar. Warm tones with warm tones, cool tones with cool tones. Also, keep your undertone in mind, so if your skin has a warm undertone, stick to makeup that also has warm tones like corals or mustard yellow. If you've a cool undertone, look for colours that feature pink or jewel tones. Not sure of your undertone or which tones suit you? Check out this article. Another trick when colour clashing is to play with the colour theory wheel and take the colours on the opposite end of the circle and apply them to your face.

For example, create a bright yellow eye and pair it with a purple eyeliner, or apply a bright red lip and add a pop of chartreuse on your eyelid.

The biggest rule? Have fun with it. Play like no one is watching. Go as bold and bright, or as cute and subtle as you want. If you try colour clashing and decide it's a big no for you? Wash it off and give yourself a high five for stepping outside your comfort zone. If you try it and love what you create? Step out and be proud of your bold and beautiful self!

So, my makeup lovers... Are you a colour clasher, a monochrome maven, or a barely there babe?

100%! It’s the fun of makeup. If it’s hot garbage you can always wash it off but experimenting is 100% the main part of the fun

It’s fun to play around with it. Why follow the rules with makeup?

I've always liked blue eyeliner or eyeshadow with red or pink lipstick.

I like exploring everything by trying myself at least once.

sometimes I use the complementary colour but generally stick to the more naturals so not often I use brighter colours

I think it would be a bit dramatic for me personally, as I like to keep things more natural-looking. But if you want to want a more bold look, go for it!

I think sometimes I match my makeup to my clothes or hair or dont match it so it stands out. Looking at the colour wheel there makes me think of some potentially nice combinations for eyeshadows alas I am not great with the whole blending thing. I tend to put a shimmer on and maybe a contrasting shadow colour and that's me plus perhaps a little shimmer on the eye brow bone. Gosh I'm getting old but I can't bear to do everything matte

I'm definitely a barely there babe myself. Love seeing others strut their stuff though! Makes the world a more interesting place to be in :)

Not sure l would have the confidence to do it but certainly would love to do that look some time , maybe ? Thanks

Eeee I remember heavy eye shadow and bright colours in the 80s. It could easily look a bit ghoulish!

It's a great trend for project panners who need to use up the colorful eyeshadow pallets. Personally like more monochromatic makeup looks or just ones that are muted down. I have worn pops of color before like blue eyeliner with orangey brown and gold eyeshadow but then I would pair it with a nude or orange blush and peachy pink lip. It also helped I was wearing a black uniform so I needed pops of color.

I like a more natural look so definitely not for me

I do not use makeup, but if it fits someone's style, then clashing colours sounds like an exciting way to express ones style.
