Do you spend more when things are on sale?

Who doesn't love a great sale? And a great beauty sale..well even better! But how does a sale impact our behaviour and are we more likely to buy a heap of stuff just because it's on a sale table rather than because it's what we really need?

Actually that said, I'm not a great sale girl, mostly becaues I really dislike queuing, and combine that with the King of BR's passionate hate for crowds, and you can back it in that we're never going to be spending our holidays at the Harrods Christmas sale! But what about you? What are your sale behaviour and habits?

  • Are you a "first inner?" One of those people you see on the telly camping outside the store in your sleeping bag the night before?
  • Or maybe you're an "in and outer?"  Dive in, grab the one thing you covert and then leave.
  • Hands if your'e an overspender!  It's cheap so you need 12 different mascara's right? And you've always wanted to try the VJazzler..you've just been waiting for it to come on sale.
  • How about a squeezer? That's right - you shoehorn your self into shoes and clothes that really you'd be better leaving for someone else..just because they've got $10 on them.

As usual there is a reason for introducing this subject.

CS Company, one of our most fabulous clients, is having their annual warehouse sale - a huge cosmetic and fragrance sale, NEXT FRIDAY AND SATURDAY 5TH & 6TH of December.

It's not to be missed, there's going to be huge discounts on:

Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, Gucci. Bulgari, Dolce & Gabbana, Joico, Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, Joop, Lacoste, Playboy, Max Factor, Rimmel, Natio, Covergirl, Sally Hansen, St Tropez, FUDGE, Adidas and many MORE.

And what's more, you need to stay close next week as given i'm the patron saint of the "hate of queuing" i've talked the lovely Amanda from CS Company,  into giving us 10 "go straight to the head of the queue" passes. I that is not enough to make your head spin,  one lucky BR'er will also win $200.00 to spend on the day. We will advise the details of how to be into win next week.

For more details on the sale location you can go to their FB page here:

It is being held in Auckland, but maybe if you don't live in Auckland, you can pass it on to someone you know who does, with the pay off being they need to get something for you!

So while we excitedly wait for next weekend to roll around,  tell us what your sale shopping habits are below

Do you spend more at sales just because stuff is "on sale"?

I do love sales, but I think that I can resist (a little anyway). In order to slow down my purchases, I always walk away once and give myself time to reconsider.

1st December, 2014

Yes I will spend more on stuff if it is on sale. However it has to be something I'll use or have been wanting for awhile. Often there are too many things on sale and so I'll have to pick just one. I often do the math and weigh up the amount I'd be saving and go for the one I want the most and save the most. However, I do not and refuse to own a credit card, so I must stick within the amount of money I have so often the food budget is the one that gets cut into. I also will stock up on favorites when they are on sale if it's an item I'll regularly use. I don't like paying full price for things so stocking up makes sure I have the item even when it's not on sale.

I love getting a bargain, but at the same time don't like to overspend, just my frugal nature I guess.

27th November, 2014

For hubby and the kids I tend to spend a little bit more when a sale is on but that is generally for clothes. I have the great misfortune that whenever something I really like is on sale I have no money to get I with.

I spend faaaar too much on sales, that whole marketing ploy really gets me!! I'm shocking for buying 'backups' and things to 'try' and because they're going cheap and I'm also guilty of being a squeezer! I've got plenty of clothes in my wardrobe that really should be the next size up but I tell myself they're for when I lose weight.. HA!

25th November, 2014

I will go nuts if it's a good sale. I hardly buy anything at full price anymore. There's no need when it seems like sales are happening all the time now. I would LOVE to win a pass to the front of the line for this one!

25th November, 2014

ooooh sales. I love them. I always justify the overspend! It's like in the Shopaholic books where she refers to these things as 'unique opporunities' :D

25th November, 2014

I definitely spend about the same, to make sure it evens out - unless there are things available that I can't usually get or are new finds. Haha so up in the air!

25th November, 2014

I get temporary insanity and rationalise myself into stuff I don't like, that doesn't fit, that I already have four of....now I try to throw away the mailers without unrolling them...

25th November, 2014

I generally try to be very good and only buy with a purpose (I have waaay too much stuff), but sometimes I love to let loose and just go a bit crazy. With Christmas coming up this sounds like an amazing sale to take advantage of, especially to top up some of my families gifts, and those for the Secret Santa's I'm taking part in. I think I'll have to pop by!

This poll makes me feel better about my spending habits but I don't think it convinces my husband that it is acceptable

25th November, 2014

I do spend more when things are on sale but not to the extreme, but it also depends on the sale. I would only buy one of a type of product... but maybe if a clothing item was in two colours and I couldn't decide I would get both (thanks hubby). Mostly though I try to ignore the sales because I do spend more than I should so in theory save money by only buying what I need when I need it.

25th November, 2014

I love a good sale cause what girl doesn't love a good bargain on their fave products! I for one wait xmas shopping out and go boxing day hehe save soooooo much

25th November, 2014

I'm terrible with over spending in a sale. I know I really don't need it but if it is cheap then I'm almost drawn to it. I somehow manage to find the special areas in stores too, even if I've never been there before, I just always manage to sniff them out!

25th November, 2014

Totally guilty. My husband doesn't get the whole mentality of buying more just because there is a sale on ha ha
