As much of a summer lover as I am, there's something about this time of the year that sees me breathe more deeply, walk in a livelier fashion, and feel lighter all round. Maybe it's the shedding of the winter woollies, or the arrival of baby lambs that gambol about the local paddocks, or perhaps it's the freesias that grow wild on the roadside where I live. Whatever it is, it's glorious, and it inspires me to get my act together, to look at things afresh, and to do the one thing I dislike doing the rest of the year: cleaning.
Yes, I'm a Spring Cleaner. The moment that the sun starts to rise earlier and set later, something inside me switches on and I begin to eye areas of my life more critically, sussing out that which needs to go and that which needs to stay. I don't just look, though. I do. And the action of seeing the spring cleaning through is glorious, and the benefits are many...
First of all, you find things that you forgot you had. My last clean out I discovered I had not one but TWO M.A.C Twig lipsticks! Two! So now I have one in my purse and one in my car. I also discovered enough travel-sized skincare that my makeup bag is now fully stocked for summer holiday sojourns!
Then there's the product refresh. It's easy to get stuck in a rut with makeup and skincare, but when you're sorting through your products you find things you've been meaning to try, or things that will work with your skin's needs when they didn't before. Simply swap them out with the products you're currently using and you can walk away with the satisfaction of knowing your stash is getting put to use.
One of the bestt things that comes from finding products you'd forgotten as well as refreshing your products is the inspiration creation. Been on a peach blush jag? You might find a pink blush and feel inclined to use that instead. The discovery of a forgotten lipstick could see you set aside your usual nude for a fresh new colourific look. You might even find a hair product that you forgot about and decide to use that to change up your style.
The last reason I love a good declutter? While I'm no fan of how much ends up in the bin due to it being expired, I do love the moment I can gift products on and offer skincare or makeup or haircare that I've not used to friends and family, because sharing is caring!
This year, I've turned my attention to my bathroom and office (which is home to the majority of my beauty stash) and intend on systematically going through each and every area of the rooms where stuff is stored, ruthlessly getting rid of what is no longer needed or wanted in order to make way for the new... Bbecause, let's be honest, I'll never be a minimalist, and spring is the season of renewal, so basically I'm just working with the rules of nature. Yes, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Ummm I used to be better at this. Time to re examine
