According to a recent NZ survey, 51% of Kiwi women regularly colour their hair at a hair dressing salon.  And with millions of dollars being spent on home colouring kits the overall percentage of women with coloured hair in New Zealand is going to be even higher.

Not only will the needs of your hair change when it's coloured, but also the results you want to see from your hair product.  Coloured hair tends to be dryer than non coloured hair and so needs a moisturising shampoo and conditioner.  We want a product that will prolong the length of our colour, add shine and nourish our hair.  Let's be honest - we want products to give us the hair colours we see throughout the glossy magazines!

Lucky for us Schwarzkopf have been working with Claudia Schiffer to come up with a range of hair care products to give us catwalk hair, without the salon price tag.  And they're giving Beauty Review the oppportunity to put the range to the test!

The Essence Ultime Diamond Color trial team will give 10 members the chance to trial four products, earning them 400 Beauty Points as well.

Each trial team member will receive:

Essence Ultime Diamond Color Shampoo (250ml)

Essence Ultime Diamond Color Conditioner (250ml)

Essence Ultime Diamond Color Shine Boost Spray (100ml)

Essence Ultime Diamond Color Illuminating Oil (75ml)

Essence ULTÎME products contains a precious ULTÎME-4-Complex, which is a unique combination of pearl essence, panthenol, refined protein & keratin.  So if you find yourself on this trial team you'll get to indulge your coloured hair with Claudia Schiffer's beauty secret - and we don't know about you, but any secrets Claudia has, we're dying to know!

So why not tell us about your hair - how often do you colour it?  Do you just have highlights or splices of colour or is your whole head completely coloured?  How does colouring your hair affect it's condition?  Do you give your coloured hair special treatment with products made specifically for coloured hair or is that not important to you?

Mine seems to be so dry :( Even with some special hair moisturisers, it is stilllcrappy and dull!! Being dry it also seems to knot so much easier, does this happen to anyone else? Seriously, these almost get to dreadlock stage! Then I need to double condition to dry get them out :(

I've been dying mine over the last 17yrs and have always been good at using products for dyed hair and even though most of the time it's only been dyed once or twice a year the last few years I've done bleaching a few times to try get to blonde then ends up another 2-3 colours because I can't get it blonde properly and it's done a lot more damage then what it use too when I just went for a dark colour.

I colour my hair regularly and use products designed for dyed hair as it helps with damage control, keeping the colour for longer and hydrating my hair. I use a shampoo and conditioner designed for coloured hair (just a cheapy from the supermarket), heat protector spray before using hot tools and coconut oil to make my hair stronger and shinier.

I first started colouring my hair a few years ago after finding that my hair started to lose its pigmentation...ie. I started to get grey hair! I did it myself and it was great, though it was a bit darker than I expected it to be. I wanted a more natural colour, one where you couldn't tell it was coloured. I decided that with the time and effort it took me to do it, that it would be better if I went to a salon as it takes just as long and I couldn't be bothered doing it myself. They do such a good job and it hardly looks like I colour it, which is what I want. I get a touch up about every 8 to 12 weeks and a full head about every 9 months or so. I really should have a touch up about every 6 - 8 weeks but I'm too lazy. Over time, I noticed my hair started to get dry, and over the last year, I have been using a shampoo and conditioner specifically for coloured hair. Once a week, I also use a deep penetrating moisturising treatment, this and the shampoo and conditioner were both recommended by my hair dresser and this has really helped to stop my hair from being dry and brittle. I started adding the extra treatment about 6 months ago and it has really improved the condition of my hair, making it really shiny and soft.

I have recently changed the colour I was from brown to blonde streaks on dark blonde and doesn't suit me however and my hair is now dry and not shiny like it uses to be .I am unsure how to get it back to shiny light to med brown in good condition

I seem to be the opposite to many of you. I get my hair dyed every 2-3 months at a salon (more often if I could afford it) blow dry and straighten every second day after washing and no matter what I do by the day after washing it tends to looks limp and greasy no matter what product I try. Drives me nuts. I try to use product for coloured hair but find I need to mix it up a lot as well but after 3 weeks or so the colour begins to look quite dull.

I used to have blonde full head foils. The up keep of being blonde was too much so just in the last 12 months I have gone to a darker red/copper than my natural hair colour. The ends are dry because of the blonde underneath and having trouble finding something that helps with less fading and norishes the hair. I get my colour re-touched about every 2 months at this stage.

It's been a while since I dyed my hair - but when I did dye it regularly yes I found that purchasing products specifically designed for coloured hair gave the best results and the colour lasted longer and looked better

I am naturally a dark brunette and dye my entire hair a butterscotch blonde so I dye my hair often and have done so for the past 6 years to maintain this look but also using shampoo and conditioner specially designed for coloured hair, I have found this useful as it keeps the colour in and stops it from turning a ginger colour and I want to prolong the length the blonde stays in my hair. My hair is dry from the frequent dying and as my hairdresser has told me, the blonde dye does suck a lot of moisture out so a combination of products is beneficial to keep my hair looking and feeling fresh and healthy. These include the shampoo and conditioner specially designed for coloured hair and frequent hair masks and they all keep my hair looking shiny

My hair is fine and gets fly away especially in the summer season with colour reacting in the sun shine. My hair dresser gives me a deep conditioner to use once a month which helps. I have foils every 8 weeks.

I have coloured my hair ever since I can remember & for that reason I look after it really well - using specialist recommended shampoo & conditioner & using treatments regularly. I use deep conditioning treatments, hair masks & sunscreen sprays when on hols. Pretty high maintenance but I think its worth it to be able to colour my hair but keep it in good condition!

I tend to mostly buy products for coloured hair but sometimes if I see something that catches my eye I will give it a go even if its not specifically for coloured hair.

8th April, 2014

I get blonde foils when I get my hair done (every 8 weeks, alternating between full head and half head) but have alternating blondes which helps blend regrowth. I tend to use salon shampoo, but not always ones specifically for blonde or for colour, I alternate each time I buy as I find it's better to have some variety with shampoos. would be interesting to see what this brand does and how much the oils would help my ends.

I had coloured my hair for the last 25 years. Mostly, highlighting and being daring by using sharp coppers, reds and blondes and I loved it! Last year when I resigned from my job, that was the first thing to go unfortunately.... however, a year on and my hair is all pretty much its natural colour now and although I have a lot more grey than I expected I would (and I'm only 41) my hair has certainly appreciated the extended break from the treatment. There is not nearly the split ends and dryness I battled with before and not having to worry about buying special 'colour treated' hair products has been great. I do miss the pops of colour I had though and when finances allow I would love to have a few foils put through. :-)

The times in which I've dyed my hair, I've never used products specifically for coloured hair and I found very little change in the status of my hair (which remained dry and frizzy as usual).
