When I was a kid my mummy was a fan of the phrase; 'give it some welly'. Translated - put your back into it. Don't be afraid of a bit of elbow grease. It didn't matter if I was washing the dishes, mixing cake batter or scrubbing the back of my neck; her point remained the same - there's no point doing half a job, even on every day tasks.
Now, when we started to see an influx of electronic beauty products designed to take the hard work out of simple, every day 'chores', I was suspiscious. Is washing my face such hard work I need a motorised brush? Is shaving so laborious I need a gadget to take the graft out of it? Is filing my nails really a job for a machine?
Then I started to try one electronic gadget after another. And a convert was born. Again and again. Here's four electronic products I now use, instead of old fashioned elbow grease.
1. The Foot File.
I walk a lot and if I don't keep on top of filing my feet, my skin enters Rhino territory. So when I first saw the Scholl Velvet Smooth Express Pedi I loved the idea, but to be honest, I thought it wouldn't be rough/vigarous enough to compete with manually rasping my feet.
I stand corrected. Oh the satisifaction that comes every time I use the Express Pedi is immense. Dead skin flies off, hard skin becomes silky smooth. It doesn't hurt and it's zero effort on my part. And it's not just me - 116 members have rated the Express Pedi 4.8/5!
Scholl have just released a Wet & Dry rechargeable version - I can't wait to try it!
2. Facial Cleansing Brush
So in 2015 people started shelling out hundreds of dollars to clean their faces. My eyes practically rolled to the back of my head when I saw this. So naturally, the skeptic in me set out to prove you didn't need a battery operated brush to clean your face.
I stand corrected. I've tried the expensive brush, I've tried a freebie Gift With Purchase brush, but my favourite is the really reasonably priced Olay Regenerist Sonic Cleansing Brush. (Once again, it's reviewed amazingly well, 46 members have rated it 4.6/5!) It cleanses four times better than manual cleaners alone and prepares the skin for your anti-ageing routine - because super clean skin and pores, can better absorb all those expensive and powerful anti-ageing ingredients!
3. The Electric Toothbrush.
Alright, I confess, I'm a bit OCD about brusing my teeth. I brush after every meal, and most snacks. I would not survive the Zombie Apocalypse without a stash of toothpaste. Or toothbrushes for that matter, I change mine monthly. My opinion on electric toothbrushes was 'not enough welly to really clean my teeth'.
I stand corrected. I use the Braun Oral B 1000 - This brush pulsates 40,000 times per minute and rotates 8800 times per minute. My mere mortal hands cannot compete with that. There's even a pressure indicator that let's you know you're pushing too hard. Something I really needed actually, as my dentist told me my vigarous brushing was doing more harm than good. And once again, I'm not alone - this brush has a very impressive 4.9/5 rating!
4. The Electronic Nail System.
My nails haven't always been in great nick. Fingers or toes, they were just never a huge priority for me. My feet were always in socks or shoes and my fingernails were bitten. Then I developed an averson to nail biting during pregnancy, even the thought of it had me feeling sick. So I ended up having nails to take care of. But did I ever consider needing a machine to look after them? Not when I could buy a 4 way buffer for a few dollars.
I stand corrected. My sister, a nail tech, bought me the Scholl Velvet Smooth Electronic Nail Care System, and I've been using it regularly on my fingers and piggies. Guess what? My fingernails look the best they've ever been, and my toe nails now see the light of day - because they look good!
This nifty tool files, buffs and shines nails, with no effort at all. For now, you'll have to take my word for it, we have no reviews on the site. But that will change with our huge Scholl trial team. (Put your hand up to join in and trial this product for free here) And well, if 3/3 of my favourite gadgets are rated 4.6/5 or above, you know I have excellent taste!
So what have I learned from my slow and careful foray into the world of beauty electronics? Well, simply put, like everything it's a case of finding the right one for you. When you do find the right one, it'll save you time, dentist trips, sandal embarassments and in the long run, money.

I really want to buy the nail file, I'm just starting to get back into giving myself manicures and pedis. I didn't have the time with a new born but now I have a little spare time during naps.
