Eyebrow Transplants

Eyebrows are an important feature of the face right?  I'm not overly sure of their exact purpose, but I do know they'd be a lot of space between our eyes and our hairline.

2014 was the year of the brow, there's no doubt about it.  Other than a few tries from the 'no-brow' trend, brow game is stronger than ever.  Thanks to gorgeous celebrities like Kiera Knightley, Jennifer Connelly and Cara Delevingne more and more of us were growing out our brows, hitting the Brow Bars or investing in brow kits.  Some of us reached for more permanent solutions.  BR's Tabatha investigated Cosmetic Tattooing last year, and as amazing as the results are, I can't help but think, there's still no hair there. So when I discovered the latest 'fix' for your eyebrows, I raised my overplucked brow and thought, "This is genius."

Ok my first thought when I heard Eyebrow Transplant was "what if your brows look like Elton John's hair circa 1994".  But upon reading further, eyebrow transplants are actually very cool.

Eyebrow transplants can be used to restore entire eyebrows or thicken existing eyebrows.  They can also be used to even out eyebrows that are more second cousins once removed, than sisters.  Sparse eyebrow hair can be caused by a number of factors including;

  • Overplucking
  • Low Thyroid
  • Genetics
  • Trauma

Like every good transplant you need a donor - and what better a match than...yourself!  Donor hair follicles are taken from your scalp and then the cosmetic doctors use really tiny blades (0.5mm) and angle them to follow the natural direction of hair growth, and each tiny hair graft is placed one by one.  The average transplant can use anywhere from 50 to 350 individual hairs, per eyebrow.

And the burning question - how much does it cost?  Around $8.00 a hair.  So for one full eyebrow as much as $2800.  8 times the cost of getting both brows tattooed on.  Ouch.

So - eyebrow transplants - would you?  Could you?  Should you?

The cost is really far too much for the average person, but the after pic looks really good.

I was so do this once I have the $$$. I have hardly any eyebrows (not in width, but kind of like they have been thinned out if that makes sense). I would love to have more hair there so i would have to darken mine up. This is way better than tattoo - like your eyebrows will go that green tattoo colour after a while. That is not on fleek! lol

Ooh I would definitely go for an eyebrow transplant. But not at that price for sure!

Um, no I wouldn't pay that much money, unless money were no object I suppose. I'd rather spend that on skin treatments at Caci I think.

This is absolutely crazy, but only because it makes me think how far medicine has come. I think this is a great idea for all cases because I can imagine having no/little eyebrows would make people very self conscious and could be a great confidence booster. I'm all for it but not for me thanks, I have too many of my own!

Wow! I would definitely get it done, but not at that price. I have Hashimotos disease and my eyebrows are a bit ropey at best, so this would be fab for me. But alas not unless the prices comes down. However, I would not consider tattooing. Let's hope that over time the price becomes more affordable.

I'd get it done if it wasn't so expensive as my brows are getting really thin, and I don't like the idea of tattoos, which would really odd on an old face! Might have to try a serum, any recommendations ladies?

Well not for me. But personal preference and if it was something you wanted done why not!

20th January, 2015

i would if i had the money.save me haveing two different eyrebrows

20th January, 2015

They actually look like they have been pencilled in anyway, so save the money and use a pencil.

I like the thought of eyebrow transplants a really good idea actually BUT I really don't like the look of them as they look too "fake" for me - they look as though they have been over pencilled. I do use a brow pencil but make sure it's fairly light so as to not look overdone if you know what I mean :)

Too expensive for me but the lady in the photo looks great. Id rather fill them in or tattooed.

19th January, 2015

Well I know a few of my mates thaf could do with this from over plucking.

19th January, 2015

$8 a hair! Ouch. It looks amazing, but wow. I wont complain about my thick eyebrows anymore.

Some years back fashion dictated very fine brows and a generation of people plucked merrily away and today suffer the consequences of fine, if any, eyebrows. For people who suffer from this affliction it may be the answer to a prayer but I am inclined to think that price may dictate in the end.
