Eyelash Extension Mystery Shopper Exposé

Being one of our three Superheroes has some perks. The most enviable (other than the cape) has to be the chance to mystery shop a beauty counter, salon or shop.  Oh yes, we give our Superheroes some spending money and send them undercover in the beauty industry.

It wasn't hard deciding on an assignment for Superhero Lutece - from her profile pictures we could see she had serious eye game going on - whether she is rocking the eyeliner or a more understated look, her eyes are just gorgeous!

And so we decided to send her to report back on eyelash extensions by sending her undercover to a renowned Auckland salon.

The assignment given to Lutece was:

You are going to visit Bloom Lash and Makeup for eyelash extensions! You'll need to book in for either a 'Natural Classic' or a 'Lush Classic'  eyelash extension.

Describe your first impressions of your experience:

When I booked the phone line was busy but saw you could also book online which was what I did, within 15 minutes of booking I was sent a confirmation email saying the booking was successful. What was also great is I was reminded through text message the day before the appointment of the time, date and address.

Sadly the day of my appoinment i had left 10 minutes earlier than normal and I was stuck in traffic for an hour. I rung Helen while in traffic and she extended my appointment by an extra 15 minutes but I was still stuck so we arranged another time.

The second time I left an hour earlier and got there 15 minutes early. There was off street parking which is a bonus and I was greeted as soon as I entered the driveway. The salon is small and cosy, a very relaxing and quiet enviroment.

What questions did they ask you before commencing your consultation?

She didnt ask me anything except for the friendly Hello and How are you?

Describe what happened during your consultation. Talk about the environment, how you felt during the appointment, your consultant’s attitude:

I told her I was very nervous about getting my eyelashes done as it was my first time getting them done in a salon.

When I arrived she realised she had double booked me with someone else, so I had to wait an hour before getting my eyelashes done. She was very apologetic about the situation.

When we sat down before she did my eyelashes she had a good look, she said that because I already had long and thick eyelashes, she wasnt sure if false eyelashes would be the best option, she said an eyelash perm would be better but I thanked her and politely told her that I would still like to get the extensions done.

Once she got started she talked me through each step and she also told me the reason why each step is done. I was so relaxed when I had my eyelashes done, there was soothing music in the background and I was given a fluffy blanket to lie under.

Helen was very experienced, she had been doing eyelash extensions for 15 years, you could tell she had a lot of knowledge just the way she explained everything thoroughly, I didnt have to ask any questions as she had answered them all.

What did you like about your experience?

I really liked her attitude and knowledge, I learnt so much about eyelashes in an hour and a half. And because of the mix up with the times she also added an extra 30 eyelash extensions per eye.

I am extremely happy with the outcome, my eyelashes look so pretty and my eyes look alot more open compared to before. I am so impressed!

Anything you didn’t like?

The only thing was the double booking but because it was the end of the year I know things like this happen due to stress.

Would you visit this salon again, if you were paying for it yourself?

Yes I have already planned to go back in a months time for a refill of eyelashes!

Would you recommend this experience to a friend?

Absolutely! It was a wonderful and knowledgeable experience.
