Fibre Mascaras – what’s the hype?

Unless you've been living under a rock you'll have seen fibre lashes being advertised everywhere.  From reps and sellers on Instagram and Facebook to well known brands, everyone is talking about these products.

With lash serums, falsies and eyelash extensions becoming more popular and demonstrating amazing results you might be thinking can fibre lashes really compare?  Do we even need them? Well fibre lash products are boasting extraordinary claims - for example one brand declares it can lengthen your lashes by 300% with just one coat!

Now we have your attention - just what are fibre lashes?

They look like mascara - with a tube and a wand. Inside the tube are teeny tiny fibres commonly made of rayon or silk.  You brush them on to your lashes and the fibres attach to your natural lashes.  This achieves both length and volume, and can help fill sparse spaces.

Some fibre lashes are effectively a mascara with the fibre lashes in the formula but other brands are just the fibres - you will need a coat or two of mascara as well.

Price wise, as with anything you can find budget buys and luxury buys, meaning if you're dying to try fibre lashes you should be able to find one to fit in to your price range!

So what are the cons?  Well, fibre lashes are thin and quite fragile so if you're an eye rubber, they're probably not going to hold up very well.  You can also expect fibres to fall during the day.  Oh and the notorious 'spider eye' is a very real risk if you go overboard by applying layers and layers of fibres.

You only have to pop Fibre Lashes into our favourite know-it-all Auntie Google to see the results for yourself!

Have you tried fibre lashes yet?  What did you think of them?  Did they do what they claimed or were you left wanting more?

I've been hearing all the praise for these but haven't gotten around to buying one. Can't wait to get one for Christmas maybe.

Ok I have been living under a rock too, haven't heard of fibre lashes. I wonder if by the end of the day they still look good or have fallen off. If you rub your eyes, then you have the mascara round your face look. They look good in the pictures but am not convinced.

I just bought Love Alpha fibre mascara, and I love it so far!

I would love to try fibre lashes, I love getting lash extensions but the up-keep I hate so don't bother anymore.. I wouldn't like it if they started falling of during the day, especially if I don't see it happen :)

Im a terrible eye rubber - in fact I touch my facr constantly so I think maybe I would be wasting my money

They scare me...I've seen some people with them on and they look clumpy, flakey and spidery. Others it looks okay on though. I've just started curling my lashes and applying a few coats of maybelline falsies. It does the trick for me and seems like 1/4 of the effort involved. For a more natural look I just don't curl.

I have heard of fibre lashes. But from what I hear they are not that great. Apparently the lashes fall off alot......so I definitely wouldn't buy them.....just because my friends have bought them and didn't think they were that great. Think I will stick to normal mascara with using an eyelash curler. :-)

As much as I love the idea of fibre lash mascara, the ones I have used just do nothing for me at all and by the end of the day I have a nice collection of fallen fibres sitting under my eyes. I also find that I seem to get irritated eyes when using fibre lash mascara and I can only assume that somehow I am getting the fibres in my eyes during the day

I recently decided to buy and try the Younique brand 3D Fiber Lash Mascara, just curious because I had seen it popping up in my Facebook news feed, etc. I was pleasantly surprised! The application takes a little bit of getting used to but once I got that down I got some seriously good results! The Fibers they use in this particular product are actually made from green tea which sets it apart from some of the other brands. I am also an allergy sufferer and have had no problems at all with using this! In fact I liked it so much I signed up with the company and am now selling it myself!! True story. :)

I have not tried fiber mascaras , just the though of the fibers falling under my eyes all day at work does not appeal to me,

OMG Clearly I live under a rock....I so need to get this stuff! I have small eyes and light eyelashes. Mascara is a must for me every day. This stuff sounds amazing. What are recommended brands?

I think I need to get myself some of this mascara. I have ridiculously short lashes and have disasters trying to put on false lashes.

I have seen and heard of the fibre mascaras but never tried one, you would need to probably get the more expensive for it to work properly I'd assume? Would love to give one a go though, think my lashes are getting sparser as I get a bit older lol

Yes i have tried fiber mascara before. Overall i would give it 4.9 out of 5.

It enhances my lashes very well and super natural no matter how many coats i use. I found it better than my Maybelline mascaras because it doesnt clumpy, spidery and fall out easily.

It comes with 2 mascara in a set. The first one to apply fiber, the second one to seal the fiber. You can repeat the step as many times as you want. I dont usually use the second mascara because i found the first one do a good job enough.

What made me stop purchasing it is i havent found a good brand to buy it. The one i bought was made in China. Although its good to use, i still wonder about the health effect quality.

Sounds fabulous and since brow above my eyelids are starting to sag a bit with age I find it harder and harder to make my eyelashes look long so this would definitely help. This Za Perfect Action mascara sounds like a good place to start to enhance the lashes.
