Five Reasons You Need To Exfoliate Weekly!

With the arrival of L'Oréal's fabulous (and now Top Rated!) Sugar Scrubs we've been all abuzz about all things exfoliation! We've wondered why the heck we've never exfoliated our faces with sugar before. We've come to the firm conclusion that sugar scrubs for the face feel really quite delightful. And, we're even more excited for winter than we were, because we can't wait to spread the L'Oréal Sugar Scrub over our faces and enjoy its warming sensation on a chilly evening or frosty morning - yes, we're simple folk, but we know pleasure when we feel/see it.

Other than the sensory aspect though, why should we be exfoliating? What are the benefits to our skin? Read on!

It helps you get your glow on! Exfoliating removes dead skin cells, paving the way for fresh skin cells, which contribute to more evenly toned, glowing skin! Another reason we've become firm fans of sugar scrubs is because they give even more glow power, because sugar helps skin retain moisture - making it a good option for those with dry skin who are afraid exfoliating will dry their skin out further.

Say hello to a more youthful-looking you! Ageing is awesome. We're big believers of that at BRHQ. Those who are in the 35+ category wax on about how the older they get the happier and more contented they are - and how while they enjoyed their younger years, they wouldn't want to go back there. One thing they also agree on? Despite loving their stage in life, they still want to age gracefully. No wonder they've a devotion to exfoliation. As you age the renewal of skin cells begins to slow down. Also, those old cells can cause your skin to look dull, while emphasising fine lines. Removing old cells through exfoliation encourages new cells to spring forth, all the while revealing fresher, skin that's not dragged down by dullness.

Say bye to break-outs! At the very least you'll say bye to the ones that you can help - because let's be honest, all the skincare and taking care of your skin in the world won't stop a hormonal breakout! BUT, exfoliating removes the dead skin cells that can clog follicles, which can then lead to pimples. Taking the time to exfoliate can reduce clogging, therefore reducing the formation of whiteheads or blackheads.

It's a skincare primer! I like to think of skincare and its application as being a bit like painting. You need to prime your surface well before going in with the top coat. In this case exfoliation is a big part of the priming process. It sloughs away the dead and dry skin cells, so when you apply your serums, oils and/or moisturiser the surface of your skin is better able to receive the goodness they're imparting.

Your makeup wants you to do it! It's not only your skin that benefits from exfoliation, your overall makeup look will too! Foundation loves a smooth surface, so keeping your skin in tip-top condition is a must if you're wanting your base to look flawless, and exfoliation is a must-do method if you're wanting to achieve this.

Of course, exfoliation – like everything in life - can be too much of a good thing, SO... If you're new to exfoliating, start slowly. Once a week is good. And always read the label, as some exfoliators should only be used once a week. Others, like the L'Oréal Sugar Scrub range, can be used more often. But even then pay attention to how your skin reacts - the last thing you want is to cause your skin to go into oil-creating overdrive and you end up breaking out. And, as always do a patch test first.

There you have it! Five fantastic reasons to discover the extraordinary benefits of exfoliation!

Now, do tell... are you excited to exfoliate? Are you a keen exfoliator already? What benefits have you noticed from sloughing away those cells? Get chatting!

I hardly ever exfoliate as I have broken capillaries on my cheeks so I am a bit hesitant to make them worse. I'm on the looo out for a very gentle one as the benefits are worth it.

5th April, 2018

I exfoliate at least 3 times a week and my skin does look much better afterwards and there is no dry scaley patches which I often get on my chin area due to having eczema.I use a Swisse brand which I buy online from Healthpost and it is great as it is all natural and contains bamboo and other skin loving ingredients but I might check one or two of these ones out too.

I try to exfoliate with regularity, but family life means time is not on my side, these sugar scrubs sound awesome though so might have to invest in one

25th March, 2018

Keen exfoliator definitely. Been exfoliating 2 to 3 times a week for a few years now. Recently started using L'Oreal Sugar Scrub and loving it.

Yes I like what exfoliating does to my skin I always feel like my make up removes better and I get more of a deeper clean. I also like that my skin care products absorb better after exfoliation.. I only like to buy exfoliating products that are kind to the sea creatures. Exfoliating balls that are plastic are eaten by fish and turtles. I like that sugar and salt scrubs and products like St Ives do not have plastic in them.

I've recently gotten into the charcoal exfoiliaters and I'm loving it! It helps with my breakouts and removes dead skin, which are the most important things to me

I am an exfoliator, I love it, probably 2-3 times a week. Maybe a bit much but I cant help it, it's one of my favourite skin care things to do.

21st March, 2018

Yes. I love my chemical exfoliators I use them 2-3 times a week and a scrub or some manual exfoliator once a week. I also have my Foreo Luna for those nights I want an extra good clean. I have noticed that when I have exfoliated my skin it's smoother and the oils and serums seem to absorb better. I have to say the chemical exfoliators don't feel good but they make a big difference in my skin. My fave scrubs currently are the Oasis Beauty Fruit Smoothie and the Kate Somerville Exfolikate, which also doubles up as a chemical exfoliator as well.

19th March, 2018

I try and exfoliate once or twice a week. I have dry skin and find a nice gentle exfoliant helps my make up sit better on my skin.

19th March, 2018

I exfoliate my face once-twice a week. I have been using the Skin Food for a year now and always repurchase it. Love it

19th March, 2018

I like exfoliating, it feels like you are doing something good for your skin and feels so relaxing. I got to trial the L'Oreal sugar scrub but didn't like it as much as I thought I would. Much prefer the Doctor Lewinns one I was using previously.

19th March, 2018

I have very dry skin and find if I exfoliate too much it makes my skin worse so I exfoliate only about once a month.

18th March, 2018

I completely agree. Exfoliating once a week definitely helps my skin.

18th March, 2018

Exfoliation is probably my favourite part of my skincare regime. I love how my skin feels and looks after a good scrub. It's great to see the positive reviews of L'Oreal's sugar scrubs, but I personally can't go past St Ives' Apricot Scrub. It has never let me down for clearing breakouts and leaving me with a natural glow.

18th March, 2018

I was so lucky to be on the trial for one of the L'Oreal sugar scrubs - and they're as delicious as they sound! I'm in that 35+ brigade, and am a total convert now :) My skin really is thanking me for it.
