Five Hair Habits You Need To Quit!

Wondering why your hair is looking a little lacklustre? Why you keep finding short sticky-outy bits all over your head? Or why your hair bobble has a ball of hair constantly round it? You could be unknowingly indulging in some naughty hair habits, all of which are surprisingly easy to break. Check these out…

Hands up if you have a habit of styling your hair when it’s wet. And by styling I mean twisting it up into a bun, before whacking on some slap and running out the door? Yep, me too. When hair is wet it’s super fragile and more likely to snap. Take a look at the hair caught around your bobble band – that’s not just hair that’s fallen out, it’s hair that’s been broken. Damaged hair. So what can you do? Let it dry naturally if possible – or get it to 90% dry then finish off with a blitz of your hairdryer on a cool setting before styling it. If doing all that in the morning isn’t possible, try doing it in the evening.

It’s not just doing your hair in a rush that can ruin your lush locks, it’s also doing the same old thing because it’s easy or because you’re uninspired. If your go to style is to throw it up in a topknot or in a ponytail in the exact same spot every single day you can end up causing your hair to break. Not so pretty when you do eventually decide to gussy it up and you find flyaways galore. Try and rotate your styles and the placement of them, even better attempt some hair down days.

So far so smug? You change your hairstyle around on a regular basis and never style your hair when it’s wet? But do you toss it up in a loose bun to go to bed? Hair Habit #3. Quit wearing your hair up when you go to bed. Set those follicles free! Once again wearing your hair up in bed causes stress on the hair and follicles. Bonus tip. Sleep on a silk pillowcase and you’ll wake up with smoother shinier hair (cotton sucks up moisture, I know, who knew!?), oh and you’ll wake up free of facial creases! Double bonus!

Do you get out of the shower, turban up your hair, and then once you’ve gone about your skincare ritual whip it out and give it a good rub? Stop both practices now! Twisting wet hair up into a knot? Well, you already know to be gentle with wet hair, so that’s immediately a naughty no-no. As for rubbing your locks furiously? It’s another cause of breakage, so instead blot your hair gently with a towel, before drying it off and styling.

Lastly, say your hair has seen better days and you want to get it back into tiptop condition, what’s a girl to do? Nourish it from the inside out. Eat foods that hair thrives on… salmon, eggs, oats, seeds, and nuts. If it contains protein, zinc, Vitamin A, or Omega 3 or 6, iron, Vitamin A, C and E and you’ll be rocking Rapunzel hair in no time.

So are you getting an A+ for hair health? Or are you guilty of treating your hair a teensy bit terribly? The beauty confessional is open!

Sounds like I am doing all I can for my hair. Also recommend Moroccan oil spray to give your hair a great shine. And Avon also do Moroccan oil shampoo and conditioner which are great for keeping my hair nice and soft. Pity there is no cure for grey except a colour! For that I recommend Olia as it is ammonia free and covers the grey while leaving your hair great.

Guilty as charged I'm such a sinner

I'm guilty of sleeping with my hair up. But for a good Reason! I have very fine hair and it gets greasy quickly, so to be able to have reasonable looking "day 2 hair" I sleep with top bun.

I always put my wet hair up in a towel and then blow dry it. I'm trying to rotate hair styles too.

I have natural wavy hair, I leave my hair to dry with out heat of a blow-wave as it just goes to frizz. All produces to reduce frizz, have failed can not find one that will actual work. I try not to rub to much with a towel because of frizz. I will work on the nourish from inside to out, and hope that it will help

I have learnt not to tie my hair up when it's still wet, been told many times by hairdresser's and have finally stopped it! But I am guilty of going to bed with it tied up, I'm always forgetting. My hair is not in good condition either! I'm not sure I'd want to sleep on a silk pillow case though, I used too years ago and I would wake up with a sore neck, it's like my head kept slipping around the pillow haha Very interesting to know about the silk pillow case though.

Oops guilty as charged! I probably won't change my ways anytime soon, but I am keen on getting a silk pillowcase.

Guilty of some of these and add to the list going to bed with wet hair :/ I think it's time to reform

i am A+ hair health wise. Never comb or style my hair when my hair is wet. Roots are really fragile to do that. If I know I couldn't get time in morning to wash and style my hair, wash my hair at night to save some time to style my hair in morning. Nice article by the way.

Hmmm only one of those I do is wear the same style every day. Done up in a quick bun(ish), has to be out of the way for work. Otherwise not much gets done to it, hairdresser reckons it's super healthy.

I don't use heat on my hair but am guilty of rubbing instead of patting it dry.

Oh boy! I am so bad, I do nearly all of these. I cant do my hair at night because it looks shocking j the morning, even using dry shampoo I cant get it looking great. So I need to do it all in the morning. I will try a lesser hot setting on my dryer. And a new pillow case sounds in order.
