Are you a nail polish person? Are your toes and tips always painted? Does the season shape your nail colour decisions? See, I have a habit of saying that I'm NOT a nail person, and yet my collection of nail polishes, and the fact that I'm always going through bottles of nail polish remover, would say otherwise. It turns out even though my nails aren't always gussied up, they are semi-regulary colourific, at least for a few days until the chips drive me mad and I have to swipe my handiwork away.
This realisation came recently when a beauty bonus from BR Merilyn (aka BEST BOSS EVER) saw me spend it on a manicure. This was followed by the temperature tipping over into the twenties and me immediately pulling out my polish, finding the brightest orange I had and applying it to my toenails.
Turns out I'm very much a polish person, and I very definitely like to match my colour to the seasons. So what shades are hot this summer? Check out these gorgeous colours, all from brands that have the coveted Top Rated badge of approval from our Beauty Review community!
When I think summer I think skin. The layers of winter are shrugged off, and the arms come out, the pins come out, sometimes even the bikini comes out. For that reason, a beautiful nude shade of polish is totally in keeping with the summer theme. The colour we love? Sally Hansen Color Therapy's Re-Nude.
Not a fan of the bright bold shades that so often are promoted as being a summer must-have, but still like your nail polish to have an edge? Essie's You Do Blue is the perfect compromise. Reminiscent of a beautiful blue skied day, it's also an unexpected choice for a summer shade.
All about those bold brights come summer? Rimmel 60 Seconds' nail polish in Neon Fest will make a splash! Fun, flashy and fabulous, it's the perfect summer sandal shade!
Love a red but want one that's a little more summery? With it's warm tones OPI's Rust and Relaxation hits all the right notes! Even better, we think it'd make a great shade as we transition into autumn. But let's not think about the cooler months for too long... warm vibes only, which leads me too...
Just looking at Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy in Lady Luck makes me hungry for watermelon. And is there anything more summery than watermelon? I want it in my mouth, and I want that shade on my fingers.
Of course that's just the tip of the colourific iceberg lettuce (the best summer lettuce imo). Bright green, sunshine yellow, royal blue, glitter everything! So many colours, so little summertime. Thankfully we're at the start of the season so there's plenty of opportunity to fit them all in, or nail down a favourite!
