Hair ruts happen, but lately I feel like I've been permanently stuck in one. In fact, lately my lack of style feels more like a deep, dark trench rather than a rut. Day in, day out my hair is in a bun. I wake up, brush it, wham it into a top knot, then go about my day. Suffice to say, I'm a bit sick of it. I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror at the mall the other day and I looked as flat as I felt. My style, or lack thereof was starting to wear on my soul. There was only one thing for it... it was time to change things up. But how?
Well, I've decided to set myself a five day challenge. Each day I have to do something different with my mop, and I'd love for you to join me! So here's my plan:
Day One: Wear your hair in a way that is not your usual
Clearly, I'm a bun girl, so I'm banning the bun on day one, which means a whole world of style opens up to me - like high pony tails, low pony tails, braids, a single braid, or even... shock horror... wearing my hair loose.
Day Two: Change the part
I scrape my hair straight back while living my 'best' bun life, so there's never a part, which means any and all parts are available for me to try. I'm thinking a part that's just off to the side of the centre will be a bit of me because I've read it gives the illusion of youth, and I'm 100% here for anything that makes me look younger.
Day Three: Accessorise
Do bobby pins count as accessories? No? Sigh. I'm going to have to raid my ten year old's beauty box, because I am not an accessories lass. Thankfully she has hair clips, claw grips, headbands and more for me to choose from. I foresee her very basic tortoiseshell headband making its way onto my head because sparkly Christmas trees and glittery animals aren't really my jam.
Day Four: Change up the texture
My hair texture is... well, a bit of everything. I have ringlets at the front of my head, it's relatively straight at the back, and then it's wavy everywhere else. My hair is also prone to frizzing. Yep, I won the hair jackpot. Lucky me. (And we wonder why it goes up into a bun every single day?) So, on day four I am determined to embrace either straight hair or curly hair. I will get out my tongs or my straighteners and I'll style it... and wear it out all day.
This is the day I dread the most.
Day Five: Do day one again, but do it different
Is it cheating to do the same but do it different? For the purpose of this experiment I'm going to say no. Whatever I don't do on day one I will do on day five. Clearly I suffer from a lack of hair imagination.
Of course there are other ways to change up one's hair style. If you don't mind spending some money you can try a fresh cut and/or colour, you can add extensions, or create a fringe (I wouldn't recommend cutting a fringe yourself unless you're comfortable around a pair of snips or you're willing to deal with the consequences of a fringe gone wrong). Another way to give yourself a fresh look could be as simple as playing with styling products. For example, sea salt spray can give your hair more texture, or you could try a hair oil in order to smooth and add gloss to your 'do. Not being a hair person, that's all a bit much for your Head Pixie, so I'll keep it simple for this challenge. But what about you?

This sounds like a fun challenge! My hair is really short so there is not much I can do with it.
