You don't always have to go fancy or brightly coloured to make a bold statement - sometimes wearing nothing is all you need. Of course we're talking about cosmetics here.
We saw it all through 2014; from nude lips to natural eyeshadow shades, people were going crazy for barely there shades. In 2015 the trend has hit our nails - yes it's time to embrace the nude nail polish. Here's how to create the perfect nude nail look - and rock it - in 10 steps.
- Start fresh - To find the perfect nude, you need to study your true nail bed Remove all traces of nail polish and then rid your nails of stains by soaking them in lemon juice.
- Undertones - Look at your (clean) nail bed. Do you see pink, white or the same colour as your skin? This is the hue you want to look for in your ideal nude.
- Good foundations - Once you've narrowed your choices, the simplest way to draw a match is to compare the nail polish to...your foundation shade. The closest match is the one you want!
- Colour Check - Look at your cuticles. The wrong colour will make them look dingy, ruddy or even unhealthy. With the right colour there will be a consistent flow from your skin, past your cuticle, to your nail colour of choice.
- Keep it short - Nudes look best on short, kempt nails. This makes it a perfect, en-trend and attainable look for those giving up biting their nails and those for whom long nails just aren't practicle.
- Buff them out - The nude nail trend is notorious for showing every dent and ridge of your nails. You need to begin with a smooth and even nail, so don't skip the buffing step.
- Base - You should always wear a base to prevent staining, but to get a true and even nude shade you'll need to apply it to an even coloured base. Look for a white nail polish base coat to get the best from your nude shade.
- Thin Layers - The key to applying nude shades is in thin layers. Why? Because some nudes look better sheer, and others more opaque.
- Finish - Choose your finish - medium to dark skin tones will suit a matte finish, whereas fairer or paler skin tones will want a hint of sheen.
- Top Coat - Invest in an SPF top coat to prevent your perfect nude yellowing.
What do you think of the nude nail trend? Are you a fan of the nearly-naked look or do you prefer your nails to be bolder and brighter?
