Handbag Must-Haves

Love them or hate them the Kardashian/Jenner clan are pretty hard to ignore, not least because their faces are splashed about magazine covers and all over the internet. If you’re a beauty fan they’re trend-setting ways tend to be ones to watch. So when The Telegraph had an interview with Kylie Jenner in which she revealed the beauty product she would never leave the house without, well, the Crew and I had to read on…

The answer?

Chapstick and a lip liner.

Ok, so that’s two beauty products Kylie can’t leave the house without, but still.., I was rather amazed. That’s nothing! I ran for my tote and rifled through it to find three lipsticks, a lip balm, blotting papers, and powder for touch-ups during the day. Kylie Jenner is even more low maintenance than myself! Who knew!?

It did get me thinking though of all the beauty products we could leave the house with, and what the pros were for each. There was facial mist, because it hydrates and freshens the skin. Perfume, because a spritz of something you love can brighten even the downest of days. Concealer, because you never know when a pimple is going to pop up in an explosion or angry redness. Powder, for when your foundation starts patching off and you need to freshen up your face. Lipstick is a biggie. A lipstick can take you from drab to fab in a couple of swipes. Lip balm, because having dry lips is uncomfortable and not particularly pretty if they’re flaking all over the show. The list could well go on…

If it were me who had to choose just one product to leave the house with, I think it would have to be lipstick. A bright one. So if I did happen to have a pimple appear, or if my foundation decided to go all patchy, or if an oil slick chose to take up residence on my forehead, the brightness of the lippy would hopefully distract from the hot mess.

I asked around the Crew, and the First Lady, Nat, was all about a multi purpose balm. Apparently she’s currently using (or in her own words ‘hammering’) one and it goes everywhere with her, and is used as a lipbalm, brow tamer, healing balm for scratches and cuts – she even applies it to where her shoes are rubbing her feet. The woman is a genius.

As for Head Pixie, who for some crazy reason is all about going make-up free at the moment, she was all for a lip balm. Not even a tinted one. Just one that would keep her lips moisturised. Although MAC Twig came a close second.

Tabatha chose a nude eye palette. Much like the First Lady she figured she could use it for more than one thing - doing her brows, contouring, highlighting, using it as a nude lippy, oh, and for its original use as an eyeshadow. Up there for thinking, Tab!

So it got us thinking, what beauty product would our gorgeous Beauty Review members not be able to leave the house without? One item. Only one. No doing a Kylie and choosing two.

You don't need to take blotting paper with you when a tissue or toilet paper will do the job :). You can even do it discreetly on a toilet stop when no one will see.

My tint lipbalm. Never leave my home without it. It's all about good smile with good lips.

Lipstick for sure! I don't know where I got it, but I always got told as long as your lips are covered you can face anything, so far, so good.

Lipstick as main choice.

Lipstick. But I always leave the house with more than one lol.

I would say spf moisturizer, like a face and body one. Oh and I haven't been leaving the house at night much obviously.

I picked multi purpose balm but really I couldn't leave the house without that deodorant, eyeliner, concealer and a body spray. And I prefer to already have foundation on before I leave the house. I may add a nude palette to those essentials though, I hadn't thought of all those uses before.

Took me a minute to snap out of my only one" tanty - matte lipstick.

Okay so I had a good think about this one. The one thing I never leave the house without is my perfume. I have a bottle in my room. A bottle in the car and a bottle in my handbag. Theres also a bottle in my overnight bag. Im all about smelling good. I might be a tad bit obssessed lol

A few years ago we had a guy stay with us that was obsessed with smelling good. Could still smell him 5 days after he left :). I can't complain, it was a great smell!

ONLY ONE!! Haha blame Pixie for that. I offered up a ranking system, but she convinced us, no, we need a definitive answer from y'all!! xx

A ranking system would have been interesting too in terms of seeing to what extent each product was considered essential. But this way we definitely had to really decide what was most essential.

I'm sorry, I'm 99% sweetness and light, and every now and then get 1% totes evil. I literally stamped my Pixie (or Hobbit-like, which Queenie finds most amusing) foot.

Yep I have to carry at least a red and a pink lipstick and a tinted lipbalm.

Haha I tend to put them in my bag and never take them back out again. I keep a lip palette at work too so really no need to carry them around.
