A while back, I opened up about going through a tough time, and wrote about what I found helpful to help me through those days where I'd rather have pulled my duvet over my head and hid from the world. To this day, I'm still journalling, doing yoga, and practicing mindfulness when I have a wee mental wobble. Writing the article was cathartic in its own way, but what I enjoyed most about it was seeing the Beauty Review community come together to talk about how they give themselves a boost when they're feeling down. So what are more ways you can feel better instantly? Check out this wonderful advice from our amazing members...
Yes! Big fan of this! It's really hard to feel down when you're blasting Katrina and the Waves' "Walking on Sunshine".
How important is connection? I was listening to a Mel Robbins podcast about making friends as an adult, and it showed me some of the ways we grown ups stop ourselves from connecting with people is simply by telling ourselves untruths. The big takeaway? Reach out. Send the text. Deliver a video message. Pick up the phone and actually call. If we all connected more with those who bring us joy, we'd be better for it.
The power of scent! And self-care. Buy yourself that wee bouquet. Take the time to give yourself a good scrub. Whether it's in time or pretties, it's so important to treat yourself.
Movement and music are a must for me. I try and get out for a walk, headphones on, music blasting, at least three times a week. It's amazing how it can turn a grey-mind day gorgeous.
100% agree. I see makeup as a form of creativity, of self-expression, and it can absolutely help on those days when you're feeling less than 100%.
I also see walking as a way to practice mindfulness. Breathing in that fresh air, paying attention to the sounds around you, watching the comings and goings of birds and other animals. It's a brilliant move - for your body and soul.
Fur babies are lifes little stress-relievers. Studies have shown that hanging out with them lowers blood pressure, while reducing cortisol. Cuddling human types does the same. So if someone offers you a cuddle, and you're comfortable with it, get in there and hold onto that hug.
I'm not a dancer. My daughter's laughed at me too much for me to think I am. That being said, studies have shown that dancing can reduce stress, increase serotonin, and even improve brain health. I might have to break out some moves... the child will just have to deal with it.
I love this comment. It's so true. People's lives can look perfect on the outside, but that doesn't reflect what's going on underneath. While it's important to have boundaries, to know what kind of behaviour you will and won't tolerate from others, patience and understanding can also go a long way when navigating the world around us.
While we'd usually round out an article with questions, this time I just want to say thank you. Thank you for being a gorgeous, supportive community of people. Thank you for your time, your care, your being here. Beauty Review wouldn't be what it is without you, and we're grateful for you. Thank you.
Naww some of these I hadn’t even thought of
