How to Glow Like JLo

Article by BR Georgiana

When a woman wants something really bad, she usually gets it. And I can tell you perseverance truly pays off. You might think I am talking about a hard-to-get guy or the job of my dreams. But no, not in this case.
My biggest beauty aim was to get the same dewy, luminous and ultra-glowy skin nonchalantly flaunted by the exotic Jennifer Lopez.  It might seem like a piece of cake but trust me, it’s not! It takes quite some time (and energy) to master the Latin diva’s tricks.

I have always envied the amazing singer for her radiant skin. Ok, for her derriere, voice and dance moves as well. But this lady, who is turning 45 this year, has fascinated me for as long as I can remember with her sun-kissed complexion which looks more divine with every year that passes. I might not be a Latina but I’ve done my homework and I can now share with you the six steps to achieving the JLo glow.

From Cleansing to Acne Reduction
Flaunting flawless skin like JLo’s starts with daily cleansing, continues with gentle exfoliating facial scrubs twice a week and the constant aim of minimizing pores (which will make your skin look smoother). To achieve this, always have tea tree oil or salicylic acid-based products at hand to keep blemishes and spots at bay.

Personally, I have never seen any pimple or blemish on the diva’s face. Not even when I checked the highest-res pics! Annoying.

Moisturize and Protect
Dry, flaky skin will not glow in a million years. Moisturizing is key, and ingredients, such as natural oils, glycerin and hyaluronic acid will give you soft skin that’s ALMOST red-carpet-ready. Your day moisturizer desperately needs SPF to prevent those harmful rays from causing wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and sun spots.

Include a Face Serum
This is a must-have product to be used under your daily moisturizer for an extra amount of oomph. Go for products with active ingredients like anti-oxidants that work really hard to give you an extra-luminous complexion.

Prime
A basic product to use when you start “building up” your fab face is primer - it instantly illuminates dull skin! Just spread a little product on your face doing circular motions with your fingertips.  Primer evens out your skin tone pretty well but, in case you still need some camouflage, use a concealer on your under-eye area (especially the inner corners of your eyes) and around your mouth.

Cover
Applying your foundation (only one that matches 100% your skin tone, please!) is an important step. Troy Jensen, Jennifer’s makeup artist, always uses a creamy formula for extra-glow and a foundation brush to smoothen out skin and blend the product perfectly into the face.

Bronzer – the Final Touch
Celebrity makeup artist Scott Barnes has his own little secret for achieving THAT kind of glow. When your canvas is ready (skin has been flawlessly covered and looks velvety) contour your face with bronzer, working from the outside in. This will create a subtle halo effect which will finally give you that “lit from within” result. Just remember to avoid applying bronzer on the sides of your nose or under your eyes. It would only add some unwanted years, ruining the glow you’ve been working so hard on!

Now that you can get that golden goddess complexion, decide when and where you want to flaunt it. Ready to give it a try, beauty mavens?

I love J-Lo's look, some great tips and tricks here. I'm a big bronzer fan, never knew that using it on the side of your nose ages you - I sometimes do it in an attempt to make my wide nose appear smaller haha!

I love how you break down all of the individual steps for us, as a pale skinned girl I am only just starting to discover bronzer (I always thought it would be too dark to look natural) so it's good to learn those little tricks about placement. Thank you.

I used to work at KFC and that definitely gave me a nice glow after work!! Didn't really help on any other front though and I couldn't wait to get in the shower!!

Would love her complexion! (and agree with the above, her make up artists would come in handy too!!)

Love her complexion. Would love the use of her makeup artist each day too :-)

Well I do most of these things and still look nothing like JLo, why not lol. Actually I don't use a primer so obviously that is essential so must get one, or the bronzer. Takes me so long to get the face on now, what's a few more minutes for perfection! Thanks for the great tips again BR.

I honestly think it's her bronzed tanned skin tone that especially emphasizes it. I always use a serum or facial oil and it definitely gives your skin a glow. I don't really use a product that's specifically designed as a primer I use a spf moisturizer that can be used as a primer. Finding a foundation that matches my skin tone 100% is really, really, really difficult as I have a feeling my skin has too tones. I can find something that looks natural and matches most of my skin though. The bronzer tip sounds interesting I will have to try that.

Yes, her skin is amazing and she always looks like perfection in photos! I think I need to look into face serums, I hadn't thought about those before.

I have always envied her for her skin, gorgeous glow that just seems to radiate from within, thanks BR this one is saved in my favourites

I also love her complexion, I find a primer key for a dewy complexion

Some great tips and tricks here, I have a night cream with hyaluronic acid in it that i swear by especially in winter when my skin is at its driest it helps to keep the moisture in my skin
