How To Look In-Flight Fab!

Has anyone noticed the huge amount of travel advertising going on at the moment? ‘Book an Island getaway!’ ‘Enjoy summer in winter!’ ‘Escape the dreariness, greyness, wind and rain and head off to a spot where you can enjoy endless fruity cocktails, quick dips in a pool, fresh and delicious cuisine, walks on the beach, all while wearing nothing but a couple of scraps of material!’ …

Yes, winter is surely upon us because the travel agents are telling us to book a trip and get the heck out of here. The thing is… exotic destinations are divine, but sometimes the plane travel just makes it a bit ‘meh’. Air-conditioning, cramped seating, being stuck in a capsule surrounded by sweaty, smelly, noisy humans… well it can leave a woman feeling less than holidayish once she disembarks. Now while we can’t avoid the screeching baby in 17A, or the man who forgot to wear deodorant sitting next to us, or the way the seat companion on the other side doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of ‘personal space’, there are things to do to ensure that we feel, and even look, a little bit of holiday glam whilst travelling.

First things first. Have a shower before you leave, apply moisturiser on your limbs, slather skincare on your face, and create a travel friendly hairdo – like a messy top knot – so even if you feel shagged at the end of the journey, your hair will look cute, and with a few extras, the rest of you will too…

Whilst you’re in the air keep yourself feeling fresh as a daisy with a regular squirt of hydrating mist. This will help combat the air-conditioning, whilst giving you a moment of ‘imagine I’m in first-class’ luxury. Keeping in mind that any liquids will have to be in airport-security sizes, remember to pick up some spray bottles pre-flight and then fill it with your favourite mist – like Trilogy’s Hydrating Mist Toner.

Pack a light (again airport security-friendly) makeup kit, then just before you’re about to land, but before they tell you ‘tray tables up’ nip off to the dodgily lit toilet to freshen up your makeup. What to pop on? It doesn’t have to be heavy-handed, especially if you’re going somewhere hot – try a tinted moisturiser or BB cream. A touch of mascara, a dab of highlighter on your cheekbones and in the inner corner of your eyes, swipe on a tinted lip balm and you’ll be looking bright-eyed and bushy tailed even if you don’t feel it.

Finally whilst in the air be sure to drink water and stay away from any food that has and overload of salt, that way you can disembark in a manner worthy of a spring lamb, rather than slugging out in a bloated mess.

So do tell, are you one for travelling? How do you keep yourself feeling and looking good onboard? What are your fantastic in-flight beauty tips? Sharing is caring!

It may sound strange but I never travel without baby wipes. From wiping hands when in my seat to being able to wash my face without having to "gracefully" position myself in a too small cubicle to wash my face under a stupid tap that won't keep the water running properly... baby wipes is just a quick fix in an emergency. Always have a moisturizer handy, both for face and hands. A good lip balm etc, and mascara.

Think I need a holiday so I can try some of these tips out now :)

Great tips here, adding this to my favorites for future travel reference :D

I wish I was escaping winter :(

When I fly long haul I always have a facial spray with me and where possible I shower in between flights to freshen up.

I love travelling. The key is light layers in clothes so that you don't get to hot or cold. Stretchy pants - no notes needed. Extra moisture for your skin - take it inside and out.

great tips! i do them all. I usually have a wee package of baby wipes to take off old makeup so i can reapply, and one of the wisp toothbrushes too - you can get a toothbrush and toothpaste from the cabin crew if need be. Scented lotion in lieu of perfume, and definitely have my hair twisted up - usually with a cute braid or something so it looks more 'done'. Sunglasses at the ready for when I leave the airport, and I usually arrive looking and feeling okay

I would love to spend Winter overseas this year but instead I will be enjoying the lovely cold Central Otago frosts haha. When I travel I drink lots of water, have a lip balm handy and try to avoid make-up.

I like travelling but short hauls only. Upto 5 hours is okay for me. Its usually a braid and makeup before the flight and than I top up my lippie before landing. Always have toothbrush on me and lots of puzzles and magazines to pass the time.

I went on holiday in NZ by motorbike. It was a very liberating experience. I only had saddle bags and a small back pack, so had minimal room for make-up. Motel mini toiletries helped. BB cream and lipstick worked well, I just had to contend with helmet hair.

I wish we were going away for a winter getaway :( damn you payout. However we will be travelling by car and water, lip gloss and moisturiser is what I crave most even though I probably take WAY more than I need to

I instantly thought of the Trilogy mist. Wish I was going anywhere on a plane, I'd definitely decant some of that into a smaller mister.

When I am travelling that time avoid makeup if I can. During traveling loose comfortable clothes, pair of jandals and mist spray. In my makeup bag compact, eyeliner and tint lipbalm. Just enjoy travelling as you can. And one more thing don't forget duty free makeup shopping.....lol.

The last flight I was on they put serve yourself water out on a table right near my seat. I was so grateful as I drank more of it than anyone else. When I'm flying things like the air conditioning really dry me out so lots of water is essential, especially on long flights. I take an eyeliner so I don't need mascara or eyeshadow, though I sometimes do those too. I also take a lip balm, a BB cream, a lipstick that can double as blush. And a toothbrush and toothpaste.

We are going to the Gold Coast for a winter break in July. We have had a winter break most years to somewhere warm and I always have plenty of moisturizer on and light make up. I do drink lots of water and not too much alcohol while flying. Before landing I dash to the tiny room and tidy my lippy and hair.

Toothbrush and toothpaste are essential in your carry on bag. Have to use it every time we have a meal on the flight as I find they always leave a nasty taste in the mouth and I'm scared of breathing on someone while I try to doze off.
