Few things strike fear into my soul like buying for the men in my life. When I ask them want they want they shrug their shoulders and grunt. When I make potential present sneaky suggestions they shrug their shoulders and grunt. Even when I actually give them the gifts they shr-... okay, you get the picture. They're not exactly forthcoming when it comes to gifting, which is why they often end up being given pressies from the beauty realm, because at the very least I get to feel like I'm giving the gift of wellbeing and showing love by forcing them to show love to themselves.
So what are some great gift ideas you can give this Father's Day that'll have the blokes in your life grunting a thank you in your direction, perhaps even paired with a hug rather than a shrug? From skincare to scents, we've got you covered!
Skincare
Tired of having your skincare swiped? Solve the problem, while treating himself, by setting him up with a skincare regime designed for manly skin. Even better... If he falls in love with the product you'll never have to think all that hard about gift buying again. Simply promise to repurchase come Christmas, Father's Day and/or his next birthday!
Candle
One of three dad-types in my life (aka the father of my child, aka The Husband) often comments about how nice it is when I light a candle (this is often followed up with gentle teasing about how it's good that I'm actually using some of my ridiculously sized collection rather than just letting them sit on a shelf gathering dust). The scents I prefer though? Not always his cup of tea. Thankfully there are more masculine scented candles out there for those who prefer a more musky, rich scent, such as the Tabac & Cedarwood candle from Smith & Co. Pair it with a note that says 'you're the light of my/our life', and you've got your gift sorted.
Man Tools
Braun Series 7 Wet and Dry Shaver
This Father's Day, skip the power tools and head straight to the grooming tools. From nose-hair trimmers to shavers, fancy nail clipper sets to hair dryers, there's something to suit every dad - from the hairy, to the fastidious, to the does-the-basics-but-needs-to-upgrade-their-gear type.
Fragrance
Since giving my dad a bottle of Brut back in the 80s, I've long been a fan of fragrance for men. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing quite like getting a whiff of something wonderful as a bloke strides by going about his business.
To be fair, fragrance buying for anyone - let alone a man - is a bit tricky, so you might need to subtly see if he has a favourite scent profile before buying. Or you can risk it, buy something you think he'd like and hope for the best (while adding in an exchange card to be on the safe side).
If I was risking it, my pick would be Phantom by Paco Rabanne, simply because the scent sounds delicious - 'a bold scent with notes of addictive creamy lavender, energizing fusing lemon and sexy woody vanilla' - and if they don't like it they'll still have a super cool robot friend to grace a place that pleases them.
Voucher
Unsure what to get the dad-types in your life? There's nothing wrong with giving a voucher. Make it a voucher for the local massage place, a voucher for a nail salon, or a voucher for their favourite hair stylist, or even an e-voucher that they can spend online so they can buy something that suits them. It's the thought that counts, right? And if they're not happy? Simply shrug, grunt, and tell them next time they can give you a list of five things they'd like and you'll choose one. Problem solved.
So, will you be giving the dad-type in your life a beauty-full gift this Father's Day? Or would he be happier with a shovel than a fancy shaving cream? Get chatting below!
