We've all been there - you've almost finished putting your face on when one slip of a brush, one shake of the hand, one millisecond of distraction; and boom. A beauty boo-hoo.
But never fear. Beauty Review's resident Beauty Therapist Zoe has some easy tips to turn the beauty boo-hoo into a beauty woo-hoo. The very definition of winning, if you please Mr Sheen.
1. Smudged mascara.
Cotton buds should be kept within reach when applying mascara. Moisten one end of the cotton bud to remove the smudge and use the dry end to neaten up.
Extra tip: If the smudge has dried before you get to it, use moisturiser on the cotton bud instead of water.
2. Clown face.
If you've applied too much blusher and can't face removing your entire face of makeup we have two solutions:
Powder Blush - Use setting powder over the blush, buffing until the colour is more natural.
Cream Blush - Try using a little of your BB cream, or mix your foundation with a little moisturiser, and apply to tone down the crazy colour.
3. Bedicure.
Who isn't guilty of painting her toenails and suddenly feeling ready for bed? If you wake up with smudged toes you can use a buffer to smooth out the nail and then finish with a final coat of colour. Wait for it to dry this time!
If you ding a fingernail and have no time to fix it, press your tongue firmly on the nail to smooth out the colour. Gross, but effective.
4. Cake face.
If your foundation is starting to cake and flake add moisture back to your skin by using a damp cosmetic sponge and applying to your face. Really focus on smoothing and blending the affected areas.
5. Creasing cream eyeshadows.
Cream eyeshadows have fabulous pigmentation, but boy do they like to crease. A primer doesn't always prevent creasing, but just as you set your foundation with powder, use a translucent powder to set your cream eyeshadow.
6. Deodorant Stains.
Although (probably just slightly) preferable to sweat stains, white marks on black clothing is a nightmare. Do not attempt to wash them off with a damp cloth. NO! Instead use a pair of synthetic stockings or tight to remove the mark.
7. Oil wells.
If your face gets oily and you don't have blotting paper, you can just use a sheet of toilet paper to remove the excess sebum.
8. Perfume overload.
We've all done it - acted like an over-zealous teenager on a first date. If your own perfume is giving you a headache try rubbing the areas sprayed with a baby wipe or two.
9. Disaster Dye.
If you have a DIY colour disaster then you'll probably need to wait a day or two before seeking the help of a qualified stylist. (Or before you attempt to fix it yourself!). In this case the messy up do is your friend.
A perfect style will only emphasis your faux pas, whereas a hap-hazard, pinned bun will look effortlessy undone.
And remember - never, ever, drink and dye.
10. Swimming in serum.
If you've added so much product that your hair looks greasy, raid your cupboards for some easy fixes. Baby powder, pressed powder and corn starch can help soak up the excess oil. Sprinkle a little on your hands, rub together and massage through your hair.
Hair spray containing alcohol can also do the job nicely, or even a sea salt spray to add some crunch to the grease. AKA - embrace the grunge.
So there you have it, 10 beauty boo-hoos turned into 10 beauty woo-hoos. What tips do you have to share?
