How well do you know your Manicure tools?

So you think you're pretty hot on the home manicure front.  You have the tools and you know how to use them but how well do you really know your manicure tools? Read on to find out.

Nail File

If you are going to have only one manicure tool it's probably best to have a nail file not only is it one of the most versatile tools it's also possibly the most important.  The nail file can give you the desired shape to your nail, whether it be flat, rounded or almond shaped.  While you may be tempted to simply grab a nail file or two from the supermarket, it is one tool that is worth investing in.  A metal nail file may be best because it is more durable, won't fray nails and can be cleaned with soap and water.  Look for one with a concave centre to let you angle it under your tips to help create a more rounded shape

Nail Clippers

While nail files may give you that glorious shape, it's the nail clipper that does the 'hard' work.  Use it to quickly and easily snip your nail to your desired length and shape away!  There's no need to spend a fortune here with most nail clippers being created equal.

Nail Brush

The nail brush is a handy wee device (excuse the pun) to have in your manicure tool box, not only is it good for removing any dirt and residue from your nails but it's also great for giving the skin around your nail a gentle exfoliation.  Simply rub it gently over your soaked nails, with the cuticles already pushed back for the best results.

Cuticle Cutters

While cuticle cutters may look like they should live in a tool box rather than your cosmetics drawer, they are, in fact an easy, painless way to say farewell to those nasty and tatty looking hangnails.  Hangnails are those daggy bits of torn skin which hang around at the bottom of your finger nail.   Look for cuticle cutters which have a nonslip grip to make sure that you get optimal precision and don't have any nasty slips!

Nail Buffer

A nail buffer may be one of those manicure tools that you just don't think you need, the nail polish does the smoothing right? Well think again nail buffers are the perfect multitasking tool, with four different functions, filing, buffing, smoothing and create a shine!  Like with our faces, creating a smooth, clean base is important for getting that perfect finish, whether you are using your buffer with nail polish or going for a natural super shiny, polish free look!

Orange Stick

The orange stick, like the nail buffer, is an amazing multipurpose manicure tool, with one end of the stick with a pointed end and the other a flat angled shape it can be used in a variety of ways.  Use the pointed end to clean under your nail, whilst the angled end can be used to push down and even out the cuticle.  Orange sticks can also be used for touching up those 'whoops' moments when applying nail polish, if the nail polish is wet, simply use the stick to remove it, if the nail polish is dry, dip the orange stick into some nail polish remover and bob's your uncle.

So which manicure tool can you not survive without?

Wow, I have so many of those orange sticks but until now, had no idea what they were used for!

14th December, 2014

Nail file! They are so handy!

9th December, 2014

Nail clippers are a must for our family of little dots, but a nail file is my moment of therapy!

25th August, 2014

I cannot survive without nail files. Always buy bulk packs so I pretty much never run out. The repetitive action is just so soothing and often I find myself filing my whole nail off before noticing.

2nd May, 2014

Nail file and nail clippers for sure! I usually carry both in my handbag just incase I break a nail at work. They're amazing tools!

29th April, 2014

I can't survive without a nail buffer but one that I don't use is a cuticle cutter.

28th April, 2014

Curticle cutter and nail file are most most-used items. I had a hard time learning how to use the curticle cutter (I was so scared them post point and sharp edges at first) but now it is my best friend. I purchased several on ebay as it's too expensive in pharmacies (30 bucks, really?) I have nail clippers too but they are for pedicure mostly

25th April, 2014

I have all of these tools except from the cuticle cutters. As I tend to just use my nail clippers to cut hang nails. I think nail clippers are the most essential. They are good for trimming nails and forming nice shapes and also cutting them to the right length.

25th April, 2014

Clippers, I have incredibly strong finger and toe nails, I have to use all of my hand strength to get through my finger nails and then use both hands to cut through my toe nails so a good and sharp pair of clippers is a must have to keep my nails in shape.

23rd April, 2014

I've got a glass nail file, it's the best, never gets blunt, easy to wash and clean and does a brilliant job. No more emery boards for me. Comes in a pouch so handy for anywhere. I also have a cuticle clipper but have a mess of my cuticles so bit scared of it now. Need to be shown how to use it properly!

22nd April, 2014

I must have a good set of clippers handy. These mean the difference between cracks/splitting and keeping your nails tidy and strong.

21st April, 2014

My nail file for sure. My nails don't trims as often the ends need smoothing and shaping. I used to go for metal files, and then a glass one but I've found emery boards to be the gentlest. I never owned a pair of cuticle trimmers or an orange stick. Maybe I should get one.

21st April, 2014

I have nail files everywhere. Often catching a nail or breaking one and I need to repair it ASAP. I use everything but a buffer and cuticle trimmers.

21st April, 2014

Definitely my nail file and clippers, I have to keep my nails short and tidy for work. I don't have a nail brush, but think I may need to pick one up too!

21st April, 2014

I suck at buffing and using a file. I really only use clippers to tidy my nails up and even then that is quite rare for me to do!! Those cuticle clippers freak me out, even though I should really use them. I'm shocking at pulling at mine and tearing them off.
