Why the Beauty World is Obsessed With Hyaluronic Acid!

Have you heard of Hyaluronic Acid?  If you're not familiar with this skin care ingredient, you're probably thinking it's a peel?   Well, it's actually an incredibly powerful ingredient that has nothing to do with exfoliating.  It's the key to super hydrated, plumped, glowy skin!

The basics.

Hyaluronic Acid is a natural compound - we're all born with in our bodies and like most of the good stuff, it decreases with age.  Hyaluronic Acid is found in our joints, muscles and in our skin - it's kind of the CRC of the body - without it we'd become brittle and dry.

Why is it good in skin care?

As an ingredient, the easiest way to describe Hyaluronic Acid is that it is a 'dermal filler'.  It's most magical property is that it can absorb and hold 1000 times its weight in water.  By holding lots of water, it fills out wrinkles.

An equally impressive quality is that it preserves collagen, which in turn firms and plumps up the skin.

Where can I find it?

This must have ingredient is making it's way into ranges you can easily slip into your trolley, or pick up at your local pharmacy or department store.  One range making waves with our reviewers at the moment is the L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Filler range, consisting of a serum and day, night and eye cream,

What else do I need to know about using Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic Acid is like a water magnet - it draws water to itself.  So for the best results you should apply it to damp skin.  If you suffer from dry skin, or you apply it to skin that isnt damp, the Hyaluronic Acid will pull moisture from the skin, leaving it dryer in the long run.   Mist your face before applying your Hyaluronic treatment and lock it in with a moisturiser after, and you're set to experience your plumpest, most hydrated skin ever!

Yes I love Hyaluronic acid! However I always have trouble spelling it lmao thank goodness for auto correct! I have dry skin so my face loves it.

I'm a big fan of hyaluronic acid. I take it in supplements and I have a whole skincare layer step dedicated to it. When I forget to apply hyaluronic acid my skin feels a little less plump even if I applied a good facial oil. My fave brand to use for my hyaluronic acid is Hada labo they're the best bang for my buck in terms of amount and I really like the texture of it been using different variations of their emulsions and not about to stop any time soon. I would highly recommend them to anyone who likes to incorporate hylauronic acid into their skincare routine.

I have never used Hyaluronic Acid, and never realised how it works as such, you girls are my go to when I need to know about a product, so will definitely want to give this a try xx

Wow hyaluronic acid I thought was acidic based and better for day use but it seems it'd be great for both day and night. Good information here.

I love it how us girls have so many options and varieties of products available. I am all over anything oil or serum like, the hyaluronic ampoules sound appealing, genius concept applying to damp skin. Winter really drying my skin this year. Once again BR, a informative article and of course the reviews. Nothing better than hearing how good (or not good) a product is from those who use it :)

Yes I have been using products with Hyaluronic Acid lately and it certainly is an effective water magnet. I have been saying for ages that for best results - always apply face treatments to damp or warm skin, it absorbs so much better.

I need to give this a go for sure. I haven’t tried these products but I reviewed the moisturiser, night cream and serum in this range for BR and it was amazing how visible the results were. I actually need to go and get more of the serum!

Have heard of hyaluronic acid but have never tried it. Ive often wondered if there is enough hyaluronic acid in the product to make a difference - a bit like Retin A products on the shelf. Great tip to use on damp skin.

Interesting to you that it needs to be applied to dry skin, big fan of loreal skincare. Excited to try this!

This looks really good! I'd love to try as I've always had good results from the Loreal skincare brand.

I've never tried it but it makes so much sense when it's explained. This sounds a nice treat for those winter months.

Does this apply to all products with hyaluronic acid in it or just neat stuff? Because you find it in a bunch of products which don't necessarily instruct you to put it on damp skin. I haven't actively tried it, being put off by the word 'acid' and not realising it's all natural. Thanks for the info

It sounds amazing I have never tried this. But I think I am going to have to! I definitely want to have some of these outcomes! God to know about applying to damp skin before I try it.

7th August, 2019

I didn’t know that it has to be applied to damp skin! I have used sheet face masks that contained Hyaluronic Acid. Will be interesting to read reviews about this Revitalift range.

I haven't tried it but I'd love to - anything that can fill in wrinkles has a place in my life! Interesting tip about applying it to damp skin ...
