Why the Beauty World is Obsessed With Hyaluronic Acid!

Have you heard of Hyaluronic Acid?  If you're not familiar with this skin care ingredient, you're probably thinking it's a peel?   Well, it's actually an incredibly powerful ingredient that has nothing to do with exfoliating.  It's the key to super hydrated, plumped, glowy skin!

The basics.

Hyaluronic Acid is a natural compound - we're all born with in our bodies and like most of the good stuff, it decreases with age.  Hyaluronic Acid is found in our joints, muscles and in our skin - it's kind of the CRC of the body - without it we'd become brittle and dry.

Why is it good in skin care?

As an ingredient, the easiest way to describe Hyaluronic Acid is that it is a 'dermal filler'.  It's most magical property is that it can absorb and hold 1000 times its weight in water.  By holding lots of water, it fills out wrinkles.

An equally impressive quality is that it preserves collagen, which in turn firms and plumps up the skin.

Where can I find it?

This must have ingredient is making it's way into ranges you can easily slip into your trolley, or pick up at your local pharmacy or department store.  One range making waves with our reviewers at the moment is the L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Filler range, consisting of a serum and day, night and eye cream,

What else do I need to know about using Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic Acid is like a water magnet - it draws water to itself.  So for the best results you should apply it to damp skin.  If you suffer from dry skin, or you apply it to skin that isnt damp, the Hyaluronic Acid will pull moisture from the skin, leaving it dryer in the long run.   Mist your face before applying your Hyaluronic treatment and lock it in with a moisturiser after, and you're set to experience your plumpest, most hydrated skin ever!

I have never used hyaluronic acid before however, I have heard it is amazing for those with dry skin! And would love to try it as my skin iis more on the dry side and could use a mouisture boost.

It's popular in facial products because it works so well, and it's amazing to now have an ingredient of this quality in a body range. I do have dry skin and I am keen to start using these range of products... As I didn't know the benefits before this article.

What a great way of explaining this! I was introduced to Hyaluronic Acid by my skin clinic and must say I was impressed by the results and have been loving it. I do have dry and sensitive skin and this has worked really well in keeping my skin hydrated.

I have been used a serum with Hyaluronic acid in the past and found it was great. I’d definitely appreciate it more now that I’ve hit my thirties I think lol

I'm a big fan of products with hyaluronic acid. Being in my 40's hydration is a really crucial component in my skin care these days and I see big differences, with the plumping of fine lines especially, when I'm consistently using hyaluronic acid products in my routine.

I have used masks with added hyaluronic acid, and did notice those products make my dry skin feel nice and soft =D. But didn’t know they were good for wrinkles. I shall use products with more hyaluronic acid then =D.

Oh wow, I never knew that! I use quite a few face masks with hyaluronic acid and love them so it makes sense about the damp skin. Keen to try more of it though

Wow I didn't know that. I've heard of hyaluronic acid but had no idea what it did. Rather interested to give it a go myself. Will need to do some research and see if a CF version is available.

Such a great article and food examples of products containing this amazing substance. I try to find products containing hyaluronic acid for the benefits to my skin. I believe it helps my skin look younger and feel softer and firmer.

Being super lucky enough to trial the Revitalift Filler range above I can now say yes I've heard of it, can't pronounce it but am sold on it. I've been loving the good things this range is doing to my skin and I'll be on the lookout for the mask to add to my new hyaluronic routine

I have been loving using some products with Hyaluronic acid in it! It’s made a huge difference to my skin!

This is super interesting. I had heard of Hyaluronic acid many times but never understood exactly what it did. The word acid definitely didn't sound appealing but now I am interested to see if this would work for me.

Hyaluronic acid is great, but the substance itself is too big to penetrate into the skin. It makes sense that applying it to a damp face works because it can form a nice moisturised barrier over the skin. I think there are now products that include hyaluronic acid in broken-down forms so that they penetrate further.

Ohhh this was really helpful! I was reccomend this recently and looked at a few products but definitely needed someone to explain to me exactly how it works without all the jargon. Thank you!

Haven’t tried this yet ,but it sounds promising and something that might actually work ,keen to try it after reading this article and comments
