If you were a beauty brand….

Article by BR Tabatha

I'm so glad I'm a writer and I no longer have to suffer through the torment of interviewing.  More specifically the horror that is the tough interview question.  You know those ridiculous questions you're never prepared for and end up either a) sitting looking gormless until the interviewer feels so awkward they move on, b) blurting out something nonsensical and berating yourself for it the rest of the day, or c) giving a perfect answer and nailing the job. "Are you better at managing up or managing down?", "If you were a breakfast cereal what would you be", "Describe your weaknesses and why we should consider hiring you in spite of them."  That sort of thing.

There is one old interview question that I actually find myself pondering every now and then - it makes me think about my own attitudes and personal values; and I think by adding an extra word we can use it as an opportunity to get to know YOU better.  And isn't that always fun?!

If you were a beauty brand what would it be?

Not the brand you aspire to be, but the one you are right now.

It's a tough one right?!  Here's some things to consider:

  • Are you budget or prestige?
  • Are you Mother Earth or do you like the added benefits of scientific R&D?
  • Are you practical or creative?
  • Are you happier with tradition or do you seek innovation?
  • Are you a more is less, or a less is more girl?
  • Are you influenced by packaging or is it what's inside that counts?
  • Are you a trend setter or a trend follower?
  • Are you content with the simple things in life, or pushing boundaries whenever and wherever you can?

Here's some examples from BRHQ;

I'm Lush I reckon.  I have lots of friends but some people find me like the aroma of the shop - a touch much.  I'm crafty and love DIY projects and why not inject fun into mundane, everyday routines?

I'm e.l.f.  Cheap and cheerful.  Don't laugh! I'm an all-rounder, I'm pretty good at a lot of things, but like the dud products, I suck at others.  Like accounting.  Or spelling.  I probably dress the equivalent of e.l.f packaging too - I like my clothes simple and practical.

I'm like Eye of Horus.  I know what I'm good at and I do it with maximum effort.  I also like to think of myself as a bit exotic and glamourous.

I'm a bit of a Lime Crime I reckon.  An acquired taste, with a bold outlook on life. Haters gonna hate and my flamboyant and loud ways of getting the job done aren't for everyone.  But they do get the job done.

So go on, consider this your interview with Beauty Review.  Imagine you are say in front of HRH Queenie and she asks you; "If you were a beauty brand what would you be?  And why?".

Type your response below!

Lush resonates ...innovative, never settling, always looking to create something beautiful and enriching that will benefit humanity. Creating with ethics, and value for authenticity and integrity. Oh and all about smelling good and looking sparkly whilst doing it! ;)

These type of questions are horrid! So happy not to be in the interview hot-seat :) but... If I had to choose just one brand... I think Dior springs to mind first. Beautiful, classic style, reliable, versatile. If you want a truthful answer to my style... I am very eclectic and indulgent. I love bold, bright looks but classic technique and am very adaptable to change. I also try to appeal to a broad spectrum and J'adore sophistication ;) (see what I did there) xx

I have no idea. I love natural products so I can confirm I'd be an organic brand. I also love the latest findings and superfood and anti-aging ingredients. I like a bargain but I'm willing to pay for quality and will buy something if it's the best deal for what it is and yes my products be mainly skincare and any makeup would have skin benefits. Their would be a lot of serums, peels and masks with skin care acids, spf products and target treatments. I'm generous with my friends and kind and friendly but a bit socially awkward. I'm good when it comes to beauty products and would be cruelty-free and environmentally aware. I'm not crazy about packaging but the containers I would use would store the precious, active ingredients in airtight pumps that would be economical and easy to unscrew when the product was emptied. I don't know which brand I would be to be honest.

That is tough! I think on the surface I'm Elf - cheap but I make it work, not good at everything but I'll give it a damn good go but then spectacular at what I am good at. but I have a Jeffree Star inside of me that sometimes busts out in full technicolor. I can be extreme, colourful and blunt.

I would be benefit. Colourful and fun on the outside and quality and amazingness inside :)

At the moment I am an Avon kind of girl, they have some great products. I like the no pressure, and you can take your time looking through there brochure, before you buy.

At first I thought E.L.F, considering the answers above but upon reflection I would have to say Black Robin Skincare, because I'm sweet, natural, cruelty free and NZ made :-)

I'll be the first to claim it I'd be MAC. First lipstick is my obsession and they do that very well. They have lots of limited edition collections which suit my personality because I get bored quickly unless I have something different all the time. MAC are pretty good at everything but have a few meh areas which you can gloss over. Also MAC is a very glittery (I'm thinking pigments) and loud with colours brand which I very much am as a person bold, outspoken, confident and I like to stand out. If I don't make sense please all just nod and agree haha!

I love this question and I'm looking forward to reading everyone elses answers.

I think I'm Clarins. Modern and classic at the same time. Reliable. Kind of simple and not very 'out there' personality wise, but still fun (I hope).

On a side note the best interview question I have had is 'Why are manhole covers round?'

13th April, 2015

Oh I love this question, so many possibilities!!! I would have to say Urban Decay: I am edgy, full of surprises and concentrate on what is outside as well as inside. I don't do things by halves and always try to make a statement!

ZA - a lil bit more grown up, but not too much, with some awesome parts and a connection to Japan

13th April, 2015

I'm Pure Fiji; I offer an outlook into island life in a non-island upbringing. Like the packaging some people mistake this for being "plastic" but no this is simply called life :-) I am easy-going but I'm aware of time (shock horror), I'm a 'less is more' kind of girl but best believe I can sport a clown face whenever I want and I laugh a bit too loud for my liking and can't forget to mention I'm the one who people can turn to to destress or vent.

13th April, 2015

I think Living Nature. Something inside me wants to Boycott big brands and go back to nz. Try getting back into our own home made products. Nz is apart of me.

13th April, 2015

I would be Rimmel! I'm nothing special but I do have my moments. I have a good range of qualities to offer to people. I try really hard and believe in quality over quantity. I'm liked by a lot of people but I'm no ones best friend. I'm reliable and all round honest! (That was harder than I thought I felt like I was doing a academic writing class! I'll save this style of writing for uni :P)

I want to know who is who from BRHQ!!

I would say - Maybe I'm Maybelline? hehe. I'm kind of friendly with everyone, but definitely have my loyal besties. There are some things people love about me and know I can be relied on for, and others that I need to work on - but that's OK, because I like trying new things. That's HARD lol. :D
