2014's Oscar Nominee Goodie Bag

Article by BR Tabatha

We all know Hollywood isn't your average town.  They don't do average in Tinseltown.  They do extravagance and ostentation, with a healthy dose of insania.  Nothing demonstrates this quite like the Oscars Goodie Bag.

Given to all nominees, it might surprise you to know that the traditional goodie bag isn't endorsed by the Academy - in fact, they voted to scrap the OTT pack back in 2006.  And yet, like all the best indulgences, it continues any way.  And each year seems bigger than the last.

The nominee goodie bag this year contains $125000 (about 165k NZ!) of luxury gifts; from car rental, to camping trips.  From vaginal rejuvenation to sea salts.

Here's a few of the more weird and wonderful gifts, as reported by The Daily Mail last week.

  • Dream analysis and horoscope.  Worth $20,000 so it must be accurate right?
  • Lifestyle makeover.  Erm... $14,200 to tell someone they have a pretty good lifestyle.
  • Three-night break in Tuscany.  $1,500 well spent.
  • Train ride through Canadian Rockies.  Who knew a train journey was worth $14,500?!
  • French Mediterranean sea salts $1,500 on salt?!
  • Customised silver necklace inscribed with the latitude and longitude co-ordinates of the Dolby Theatre. $150 makes a nice momento for the winner...but a sore reminder for the loser.
  • Glamping trip. $12,500 would pay for a nice hotel.  Just saying.
  • Candy and dessert buffet voucher $800 on candy.  Now this I can get behind!
  • Afterglow vibrator $250 for a vibrator?  Mr Grey will see you now...
  • A year's car rental $20,000 worth of car rental.  Does it include a chauffeur?
  • O-Shot. $5,000 will buy you a new hoo-ha.  You know, your lady area.
  • Luxury condoms. Luxury prophylactics. $56.  Who knew?!

Our favourite has to be that each nominee can name an animal shelter of their choice and Halo Natural Pet Food will donate 10,000 meals in the nominee's name.

And here's the rest of the list.  It's long.  Brace yourself.

Woah that's a lot!!! I don't feel bad at all for the actors and actresses that don't win an Oscar. Even if they have to pay tax on it it's still an incredible amount of stuff. I definitely think $12,500 for glamping is ridiculous you could stay for a month or longer at a super luxurious hotel for that.

Wow...talk about excessive, I think I'm in the wrong profession :)

I'm a little lost as to why a goodie bag (in this situation) is necessary. Please correct me if I'm wrong but most get free entry to the "show", free meal, free drinks not to mention the outfits etc. I'm just saying... there are a lot of people out there that would be so grateful for a portion of what they are chucking in those bags. Why must greed accumulate so?

28th February, 2015

The thing is, most people who attend the oscars probably don't get many 'wow' moments from more products. I'm guessing they either give the bag away to a friend or something. When you have everything or can purchase anything...more 'stuff' falls short of the much sort after adrenaline rush that most of us get when we purchase a beauty box.

So extravagant! How lucky are they :-)

27th February, 2015

Holy smokes!! That's kind of absurd!..

27th February, 2015

wow what a goodie bag but I must admit that I laughed at the $4 drink...I do love the fact that they can nominate a animal charity for donations though :)

I'd like to think the rich and famous would be humble and donate or pass these gifts on to people in need of particular items I mean they must know of or heard of someone in need of a holiday or a car or whatever else maybe not the personal stuff. It would be the best way to see the humility in them. I mean they have disposable income and most probably have access to a variety of products and endorsements. But these are my hopes that these wealthy people after all they are all people would do some good with these items.

26th February, 2015

Few double ups on the list. acccident perhaps?

26th February, 2015

Just imagine what all that money spent on all this crap could do for people who actually NEED it. I don't get why people accept giving rich celebrities FREE things is such a good thing!

25th February, 2015

One can only be super-crazy jealous really....(wish it was me..wish it was me...)

25th February, 2015

That is one huuuuge list! With some very interesting products haha! I wonder if it would even be worth paying all the lax on it cause most people wouldn't use half of those eccentric vouchers! Though there is some nice goodies in there too! Oh the life styles of the rich and famous huh. It does seem rather excessive, I don't think you could actually carry all of that out in a goodie bag! haha

25th February, 2015

I want a goodie bag, forget being famous they can keep all that goes with the life that they live. I like living in the real world. I would never want to live under a microscope, and judged all the time on how you look ,dress and how you act.

24th February, 2015

Its so crazy! This is so true the rich help the rich, and this is crazy!! A long list of everything but a kitchen sink hahaha!! The 3 nights in Tuscany and the massage sounds amazing right now :D

24th February, 2015

That's insane! It's funny how in some ways they are some of the people who need it least but they get given so much.
