If I were ever told that I could only use one cosmetic for the rest of my life (the horror!) my answer wouldn't be a hard to come to: Mascara.
Mascara is my jam. I wear it pretty much every day; even on the days when I stay home. A sweep of it on my lashes leaves me looking more awake and feeling less like a mole who has just seen daylight for the first time ever. I love that it lengthens. I love that it volumises. I love that it curls. I love that it comes in an array of colours. I love that it can look natural. I love that it can look outrageous.
Yes, mascara is my ride or die. So, being the mascara lover that I am, when I saw there was a new lash trend and all it needed was a bit of mascara, rather than a trip to the salon, I was intrigued, quickly followed by enamoured. Allow me to introduce you to my new favourite lash look... Floating lashes.
Floating lashes is basically taking a mascara that offers lift and applying it sparingly to create uplifted, feathery, light-as-air looking lashes.
Simple, right? Unbelievably so. So simple there are only two things to keep in mind when creating the look.
1. Don't go in heavy with the application - you don't want to look like you've a couple of baby tarantulas on your lids - so be sure to scrape excess mascara off on the side of the tube as you lift the wand out.
2. Don't apply too many layers of mascara. If you find things get clumpy, grab a clean mascara wand and use it to de-clump your lashes.
So what mascaras would we recommend if you're wanting to achieve the floating lash look?
Based on the reviews of our wonderful Beauty Review community, L'Oréal Paris Lash Paradise, Clinique High Impact Mascara, and Maybelline Lash Sensational are the best mascaras to create a look that is lifted, fluffy, separated, and not clumpy.
All in all, floating lashes is a super pretty look we mere mortals can achieve without spending hours watching beauty gurus do their thing on interweb videos, and any trend as simple as that is what I consider a true thing of beauty.
