Acure Marula Oil

By BR Amelia

We love a good oil here at BRHQ. Rosehip. Chia. Almond. Apricot. Coconut. Olive. We love that there's an oil to suit all, that they're easily accessible... and that they can show your skin some love without costing you an arm and a leg.

One oil that caught our attention in the last few months (and that one of our fellow crew members BR Kellie is using and loving!) is marula oil. So what is marula oil and why do we need it? Read on!

Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil

What exactly is Marula Oil?

Marula oil is extracted from the seeds of the fruit of the Marula tree, which is found in the southern regions of Africa.

So what makes Marula Oil not just the good oil, but the GREAT oil?

It's rich in Omega 9 and 6, anti-microbial, filled with antioxidants and has loads of vitamin C. Marula oil is known for supporting the healing of skin, being highly nourishing, and working to reduce inflammation while also battling free radicals.

Not only is it chock full of the good stuff, it absorbs quickly and doesn't leave you with a tacky feeling on the skin.

Can anyone use it?

Those with dry, dehydrated skin could well love marula oil thanks to its nourishing nature. Due to it being anti-microbial it can also be beneficial for those who experience breakouts - however as always when it comes to skin that is easily irritated it pays to err on the side of caution and patch test first, stopping use if irritation occurs.

Is Marula Oil only good for the face?

Nope! This is one multitasking oil! You can use it on your hair to smooth split ends. Rub it into your nail cuticles. Apply it to dry or cracked spots on your body. Apply it to your scalp as a treatment. Basically, douse yourself with it and call it good (okay, that may be an exaggeration... but it really is top-to-toe friendly).

The Ordinary 100% Cold-Pressed Virgin Marula Oil

So it turns out marula oil has us covered - literally! Best of all it doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg (yes, we're looking at you Drunk Elephant, cough) with the majority of bottles we've found on the New Zealand market being around the $25 mark.

So, our beloved Beauties - is marula oil new to you? Is it on your list to try? Or is it already part of your regime? And are you loving it as much as BR Kellie is? Get chatting!

Ooooh yes I've heard good things about Marula Oil. I first saw it by The Ordinary and have had it on my wishlist for awhile. I'm currently using a $45 oil which is on the pricey side but I'm willing to pay for quality if it works. Now to figure out which one to try.

I love Marula oil! I had a couple of samples of the Drunk Elephant one which is divine but soooooo expensive! I’ve got The Ordinary one which is cheap enough to use on my hair as well as face - good for travel as you only need the one oil. I’m not a fan of the company though so plan on buying the Acure one when it runs out.

It sounds so good! No, I’d never even heard of it before!

Sweet almond and apricot kernel oil are my all time favs. Although i do love coconut for my body as well, and i have tried a macadamia oil before that was AH-MAZING!!! This one has me intrigued

I haven't heard of this one before, but I am a huge fan of using oils on my face! Will have to add this to the never ending list of "must tries" haha

I've never heard of this but I have used a lot of different oil type products in the past and have really enjoyed them and it doesn't seem too expensive so would be keen to give it a go.

Mmm it sounds nice - I love oils and use all types. I haven't tried Marula oil before.

I was previously using a shampoo/conditioner that contained marula oil and it did make a difference to my hair, felt way more softer.Unfortunately the brand I was using which was Avon supreme oils range had too many chemicals in it for my liking so I stopped buying it.

I haven't used Marula on my face but the Sukin body oil contains marula and is so lovely and nourishing ...It's definitely a winner for dry skin. I love the price point of The Ordinary products too - they're amazing

I haven't heard of Marula Oil before, I would love to see the affects on my hair since it's very affordable.

Why are you not a fan of the ordinary company? Can you tell me please? I’ve never bought anything from them yet, so just interested in your stand on it! :)

The products are fine, I just don't like the way they conduct business. There's too much drama, especially on Instagram. A quick Google will tell you all about it.

I've heard the Acure one is a good dupe for the Drunk Elephant one. I'm going to try that one once I've finished my one from The Ordinary.
