Article by BR Fiona

Well the official “love” days is this week and BR Fiona has been set the lofty task of flushing out some of the THE most romantic fragrances as after all if you're looking to set the mood for your Valentine's day date then what better way to start then appealing to one of the 5 senses?

Scent has been suggested by scientists to play an important role in choosing our partners. In one study women were asked to smell sweaty t-shirts worn by a variety of men (we're hoping they got paid alot), and for the most part they were most aroused by the t-shirts worn by guys whose immune systems were different from their own (which apparently helps with the survival of our children). The power of scent and attraction goes even further, when women are ovulating they excrete a certain pheromone called copulins. When a male inhales this scent his testosterone levels go on the rise and he in turn emits androstenone, which acts as a repellent to women who aren't ovulating.

If the thought of wearing a copulin perfume doesn't sound too romantic to you or the idea of snuggling up to a male smelling of androstenone isn't too appealing then why not try one of these romantic Valentine's day scents?

Fragrance for her.......

Chloe Eau de Parfum, 50ml $170

Not only does this perfume have a super cute bottle, which is meant to reflect femininity and strength but the fresh scent of pink peony, freesia and lychee will leave you encased in a clean, feminine subtle scent.

Chanel Eau Premiere No 5, EDP 100ml $232

Sometimes you just can't go wrong with the classics. Chanel No 5 created to 'smell like woman' was a favourite of Marilyn Monroe with the sexy actress wearing only a few drops of this famous scent to bed. Smelling of jasmine, rose, amber and patchouli, just to name a few, this scent is said to smell of water in midnight. Sounds rather romantic right?

Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf, 100ml $230

A cult classic this perfume has a lot of hype to live up to! This explosive oriental floral scent combines the sweet intense smell of jasmine with the musky scent of patchouli. Not one for the faint hearted this scent has been described as 'sex on legs'.

Angel by Thierry Mugler, 50ml $150

A popular perfume with many of our Beauty Review ladies, this scent is almost edible with its base notes of dark chocolate and caramel, middle notes of apricot and plum, topped off with cotton candy and melon. This perfume is a definite must if you're planning on serving yourself as dessert!

Vera Wang by Vera Wang, 50ml $175

If a proposal and a sparkly ring are what you are secretly hoping for this Valentine's day then why not look for inspiration from wedding dress designer to the stars, Vera Wang's signature perfume, Vera Wang. This award winning scent is a harmony of gardenia and mandarin blossom with an underlying scent of musk. Perhaps this alluring, romantic scent will be enough to elicit that special question from that special guy.

Scents for him.......

Hugo By Hugo Boss, 100ml $79

This scent mixes sweet and spicy (just how we like our men right?) with the clean scent of pear and basil combined with Lebanese cedar and musk. Made to evoke a day spent outdoors in the sunlight, hopefully this scent will entice you to spend a day outdoors snuggled up to your man.

A*Men By Thierry Mugler, 100ml $119

For an elegant, yet masculine scent? Then look no further with its woody notes of Atlas cedar and it's explosion of coffee and mint this scent is sure to keep your sense in rapture.

The One, for men by Dolce & Gabbana, 100ml $109

If your man is 'the one' then why not surprise him with this manly scent. Described as the perfect scent for the classic, masculine man this scent of cardamom, ginger and cedar may be manly enough for even the most resistant cologne wearer!

Hypnose Homme Cologne by Lancome, 100ml $102

Created as a partner for Hypnose for women perhaps this cologne is the perfect scent for your partner? Made to contrast the aromatic with the oriental this scent is composed of mandarin, mint and cardamom with a touch of lavender.

Spicebomb by Viktor & Rolf, 90ml $148

If it's a challenge to get your man interested in cologne then this may be the one for you! Presented in a bottle shaped like a.....hand grenade......this scent will blow your man's senses with its zesty notes and manly leather and tobacco aroma. Perhaps it might be just the thing to 'ignite' your Valentine's day.

Now if any of these sound rather appealing why not leave bookmark this page or leave it open for the other half to see and get inspiration? Or perhaps you think we've missed that quintessential romantic scent, why not get commenting it and share it with us!

I'm very picky with fragrances also and find most of these scents to be too 'heavy' for me, I even have to admit that I don't like Flowerbomb! :O probably a good thing for my walet however! I like much lighter floral/fruity scents :)

An amaaazing smell for men who don't want an overpowering cologne is YSL L'Homme.. just amazing!

I'm not a great fan of wearing perfume anymore. I'm always worried I have too much on, and the stuff wears out by the end of the day. I don't buy my own perfume as they're always expensive, and the thing is they tend to go off! However I do like wearing them on special occasions, it's nice when my partner notices it.

I am a Chanel fan and have a few of them, but my favourite is Allure. My husband has more colognes than I have perfumes, they are all fantastic; he also likes Chanel but has Hugo too. Couldn't imagine life with perfumes; use them every day.

I'm very picky with fragrances but I'll check those out. I have tried out the Viktor Rolf fragrances I wasn't too fond of them. But my partner will probably like the spice one since he likes old spice. I recently tried on Red Door on one wrist and Vera Wang Bejeweled on the other and I liked Bejeweled but when I came home and had my partner smell both he liked Red Door much better on me which kinda disappointed me because although it smells fine it's not really my cup of tea as I liked fruitier fragrances and he likes the more spicy ones.
