It’s learn a new look week!

Article by BR Natalie

What stops you from trying a new look?  Is it fear of looking silly?  Is it stepping out of your comfort zone?  Or does it simply come down to not knowing how to do it?

At BRHQ we firmly believe for a healthy and happy mind you should challenge yourself to learn something new.  It was part of the reason we included certain products in March's Beauty Box; because there's nothing more fun than giving people the right tools to do the job and seeing them suceed - and enjoying doing it!

This week's theme is Learn A New Look.  We want you to set yourself the challenge to learn a new beauty skill - and we want you to send us pictures of your journey.  We're going to select our favourite photos and include them on the brand new Photowall when Beauty Review relaunches later this month.  If we use your photo we'll reward you with 50 Beauty Points.

Send us your pictures via:

  • Facebook - @Beauty Review
  • Twitter - @nzbeautyreview #BRnewlook
  • Instagram - @beautyreviewnz #BRnewlook

Here's some ideas of new beauty skills to learn:

  • Eyeliner - whether it be the type of formula like liquid or gel, or a tecnique like cat's eye, wings or tightlining.
  • Lipstick - do you want to learn to overline a la Kylie Jenner, or maybe you want to learn how to create an ombre lip?
  • Hair styling - do you want to perfect your blow wave or maybe learn how to do a fishtail braid?
  • Nail Art - do you want to try water marbling or how about trying one of our nail art tricks?
  • DIY - do you want to learn to make bath bombs or maybe master DIY cosmetics?

And here's some tricks to nailing that new skill:

  • Check out blog How Tos or vlog Tutuorials depending on how best you process information.
  • Invest in the right tools for the job.
  • Practise, Practise, Practise.
  • Ask a mate you trust to critique your new look honestly.
  • If you're getting frustrated, stop and try again later.

So are you up for the challenge?  What new look or skill will you try this week?  Tell us below!

I ended up trying an ombre lip and what I've since learned is a cut crease eye look - so stoked with both. Thanks BR for pushing my limits yet again!

Cool idea - would love to try a new look and post pics up but alas I don't really have the time etc to do that, I'm sure I'll have fun looking at everyone Else's though :)

arg! these bobby spinners are doing my head in... I think i might have a new hair look, but it wasnt what i was going for. Hope it can handle a walk home from work, the last try didnt last a walk to the corner!

I've got two skills I'd like to master this week: Learn how to apply lipstick like Kylie Jenner Use the hair screws from my March Beauty Box to style my hair

I'll have a look at my limited makeup collection and see what new look I can rock. I just recently got some bright pink and purple lippies so I'll be looking to see if the color suits or if I got carried away with bright colors and expanding my small collection.

I would love to learn great eye makeup. Im hopeless at eyeliner and lets not even talk about eye shadow haha. I see some really nice styles but my attempt looks nothing like the pic!

Awesome! I want to try doing a crease cut. Watched a youtube video and it seem easier enough to do....

7th April, 2015

I've been trying a lot of different looks which I've been posting on my Instagram (link in my forum footer if you wanna check it out)... I'm normally a very plain girl and do the same thing every day (especially on week/work days) lately I've spurred myself on to step outside my comfort zone and try different things, with the encouragement of some of the BR girls! ^.^

7th April, 2015

I've been trying out eye looks for the past couple of weeks (managed to clog the oil ducts on my lower lashes) so now I am attempting the smokey eye look without using eyeliner near my lower lash water line so as to give those oil ducts a respite and have lubricated eyes once again. My hair needs some serious attention, so the comb in the March Beauty Box is just what I needed to start playing around with some new styles.

Ooo, good challenge. Such a rookie...what shall I choose??

6th April, 2015

Ohhh what a great idea, I'm in! The ZA liner look with todays beauty poll looked so sophisticated and to be completely open I haven't worn eye liner in a long time so it would be a challenge :)

6th April, 2015

I'm getting better with my new 3Q hairdryer that Kellie made me get. It's taken a fair few goes but by gosh I'm getting it.

6th April, 2015

This sounds amazing! An awesome way to push ourselves out of our comfort zones :)

6th April, 2015

Such a cool idea! I'm going to try and perfect the cut crease eyeshadow look - I've been inspired by a few youtube videos lately, and I really want to conquer it! x

6th April, 2015

Exciting BR :-) even though I have a crazy hectic for night upon me, I'm keen to do this
