It’s learn a new look week!

Article by BR Natalie

What stops you from trying a new look?  Is it fear of looking silly?  Is it stepping out of your comfort zone?  Or does it simply come down to not knowing how to do it?

At BRHQ we firmly believe for a healthy and happy mind you should challenge yourself to learn something new.  It was part of the reason we included certain products in March's Beauty Box; because there's nothing more fun than giving people the right tools to do the job and seeing them suceed - and enjoying doing it!

This week's theme is Learn A New Look.  We want you to set yourself the challenge to learn a new beauty skill - and we want you to send us pictures of your journey.  We're going to select our favourite photos and include them on the brand new Photowall when Beauty Review relaunches later this month.  If we use your photo we'll reward you with 50 Beauty Points.

Send us your pictures via:

  • Facebook - @Beauty Review
  • Twitter - @nzbeautyreview #BRnewlook
  • Instagram - @beautyreviewnz #BRnewlook

Here's some ideas of new beauty skills to learn:

  • Eyeliner - whether it be the type of formula like liquid or gel, or a tecnique like cat's eye, wings or tightlining.
  • Lipstick - do you want to learn to overline a la Kylie Jenner, or maybe you want to learn how to create an ombre lip?
  • Hair styling - do you want to perfect your blow wave or maybe learn how to do a fishtail braid?
  • Nail Art - do you want to try water marbling or how about trying one of our nail art tricks?
  • DIY - do you want to learn to make bath bombs or maybe master DIY cosmetics?

And here's some tricks to nailing that new skill:

  • Check out blog How Tos or vlog Tutuorials depending on how best you process information.
  • Invest in the right tools for the job.
  • Practise, Practise, Practise.
  • Ask a mate you trust to critique your new look honestly.
  • If you're getting frustrated, stop and try again later.

So are you up for the challenge?  What new look or skill will you try this week?  Tell us below!

I want to attempt the nail art ideas! It's been far too long since I did anything other than the one base colour on all 10 nails. This is a good little incentive to get my a into g and do it this week!

Ooooh ombre lip. Def wanna try that

6th April, 2015

I would love to learn the smoky eye and eyeliner and style my hair better.

6th April, 2015

Just happy with my look.

I might try the nail art or D.I.Y, Not sure yet. Change is good. Can't wait to see what everyone does.

Perfect timing BR! I have been working up the courage to try the ZA liquid eyeliner. I happened to watch xlivlovesmakeup's latest video using it last night, and have decided to give it a go - video me giving it a go - and pop it on my channel, just for the amusement of others... although I'm hoping it won't be that much of a debacle...

Love this! I would like to get out of my comfort zone a bit - I'm a stickler for same old, same old. I know it suits me & I know I can do it. I might have a crack at the overline with lippy as my top lip is so much thinner than my bottom. Although I have tried a few times (and failed) to wing the eyeliner, I shall keep practicing! I have tried the fishtail a few times but it looks so messy so I'll keep practicing that one too, I'd really love to learn how to Victory roll as I'm a bit sick of the old faithful Quiff for my growing out fringe. Can't wait to see what our lovely members do!

Ohhh I think nail art might be a fun one for me here...

I would love to look as good as the model in the picture above when applying make up! Definitely love to learn how to do something new with my hair :-)

I set myself this as part of my NY Resolutions and I have to say that while it started off well, it fizzled out (these things happen) so maybe this is a good kick-start again. The BRBB has made me step out of the old comfort zone as well with one or two of the products and I am trying to use them daily so I get a true feel for them (much like I would if I was sent them to trial). Nail art is something I like doing but not necessarily good at and new styles are needed there; I tried an Ombre lip last month which failed so keen to try again and maybe a few others on the list. I hope everyone is up for the challenge :)

Oooohhhh this sounds FUN!! I cannot for the life of me do a smokey eye so I think that is the mission this week. That and ombre lips! I need to go get the right tools for the job but I will have so much fun giving it a go.....

6th April, 2015

I'd like to be able to do more with my hair...

6th April, 2015

Mine would have to be getting winged eyeliner right

6th April, 2015

All the best with the ombre lip that's a great one to tackle! Might I add I'd love to reach through the screen and give your dog a cuddle!!!

Naw Thanks Koni, he was my big teddy bear xx I miss him dearly. Ombre is a tough one alright, very easy to over-blend. I might give marble effect nails a nudge first :)

I agree that would be fun
