It's Valentine's Day.  And yes while pinks and reds may be the more traditional colours of romance, we're stepping outside of the box.  Earlier in the week we brought you our Nail of the Week - a deep, velvet brown called Chocolate Cakes by Essie. 

Well today in the BR office we're digging all shades of deep purple.  Merlot, Burgandy, Wine, Violet and most of all - Plum.   We've decided it's an underrated colour, and with the right eye look, plum lips scream sultry romance. 

Check out our Pinterest board "Plum Lips" for some inspiration.  From the runway to the red carpet, from the office to the nightclub - there is a shade of plum for every occasion and for every one.  Trust us - this colour is incredibly versitile - we're definitely feeling the love today.

After watching the photos I don't know which of the different shades I like the most. Definitely I love the colour.

I lurve it, haha. I reckon plum is an amazing colour - it can be so subtle if it's sheered out, or incredibly intense and almost 'vampy'.

Not a shade I would typically go for but man plum can look sexy! Dark lips seems to be really popular with YouTube makeup gurus! I'm not sure it would suit my skin tone but I would love to see some girls tagging beauty review on Instagram with their trials!

I honestly don't know! I think it would look good on some people. I think it might look quite good in winter, but its definitely one of those colours you need to try and see if it suits you.

I actually like the plum... but it has to be in a tone that suits the person. Lorde is a perfect example for me, her plum lips are just too dark for her face. I have a lighter, slightly shimmery body shop plum that I love at the moment for an interesting but not crazy plum lip

I'm usually an 'au naturale' girl myself so this will be an interesting experience. I can imagine it would look very chic with dark colours.

If I'm going to have a fruit salad for my lips, I'd choose strawberries, cherries and dragon fruit any day. Plums however are not on the list..... I love my pink and red tones, and I'll even venture as far as a lilac, but the darkness of a plum makes me look like I'm venturing into the world of gothic gone bad. Think I'll leave this colour for the bold and beautiful out there!

Superstar Kiwi singer Lorde definitely rocks the plum lips in her video clip. Gotta love them! Seem to be the in trend at the moment, wonder if I can pull it off too?

This is my winter resolution. I am going to master this luscious dark lip! I had been thinking garnet, berry, burgundy . . . but I think the answer is plum!

Plum lips = Very sexy and romantic. I have always loved the colour but have always been a bit unsure on how it would look on me. I have looked it up on tumblr with people with the same hair colour/eyes/skin tone as me and I must say, this is certainly a colour I am willing and wanting to try!
