Can You Believe HOW many people have cut their own hair?

LOCKDOWN Beauty and US.

by BR Tabatha

Last week in the search of the facts and to uncover the truth, we surveyed our Beauty Review readers to ask if lockdown has impacted the way we look, and the way we buy.

Have we turned into a nation of women cowering in the shadows not because we’re afraid of COVID-19, but  because our body hair is now so long it needs to be blow dried?  What DIY beauty treatments has the nation resorted to?  Have we become a nation in love with supermarket beauty products, or are we hanging out for salon treatments?

Let's find out!

So there you have it.  The Lockdown Beauty numbers crunched - any surprises?  We can't believe so many salon clients have reached for the scissors and colour!  Let's hope hairdressers don't decide to add a DIY Tax!

WIN: Tell us more about any of your DIY successes or failures below and we might reward you with a spot prize from our awesome prize cupboard to boost your spirits.

I haven't touched my hair but I DID do a DIY upper lip wax which I definitely regret! It sounds simple but the wax strip took off skin and I was left with small pimples and dry skin. Leave it to the experts next time!

My daughter refuses to go to the hairdresser (shes 7) so I have been cutting her hair. I use a strip of sellotape across the hair so I can cut it straight lol

I'm part of the 52% that cut their own hair! It was just barely a trim to get rid of a few dead ends, so no major disasters for me. But, I did have to get a little creative with my hair going a lil too brassy for my liking. I mixed up some purple hair dye with a load of conditioner to get the normal 'toner colour' I'd use, left it in my hair for a few hours and it totally worked! Pretty proud of my diy skills with that one!

I would never attempt to cut my own hair, my hairdresser struggles to tame my mop so there's no way I could do it. I really don't understand why people felt the need to do it themselves. I'll be wearing a beanie for a few weeks yet on my bad hair days till I can get in to see my wonderful hairdresser..

My brother cut my hair (and my dolls in a matching do) when I was about two - not to keen on amateur hairdressing since then. Have done my eyebrows with the fatal result of trying to even them up resulting in thinner and thinner brows :-(

This is so interesting! I am really surprised at the number of people that have coloured and cut their own hair when they normally go to the salon. I will absolutely not colour my own hair on my own. I can just imagine the disaster if I tried to lighten my hair. I think I can be pretty confident that it would be more horrific than the just coping with seeing myself with some terribly dark roots! I did however dig out some old wax from the depths of my cupboard so that I could try to wax my legs. Unfortunately I only had enough to do the lower part of my legs! I have now ordered some more wax online! Usually I shave but let things go a bit and waxing seemed like the logical solution. Hopefully I might keep it up and that it doesn't just sit in the cupboard again. I have also done a lot more research into my makeup and what I would like to buy next. I feel like this lockdown might actually cost me money! I've also done quite a bit clearout, because hey what else do you do in a lockdown, hence the need to buy new shiny things! I've also definitely washed my hair much less and I don't think I've even run the straightener through at all so hopefully my hair might be better off for it. I'm still shocked that over half of us have cut our hair!

I have RESISTED the urge to chop off my heavy unkept mop, so proud!! I did dye it pink though... hehe

I cut my own fringe when I was in high school, it was done so badly that I had to then go fix it up, but it ended up being SO short, I was so embarrassed haha it took so long to grow out to a normal fringe. I also must admit that I tried to colour my hair pink during lock down, my hair wasn’t light enough and it didn’t take at all, complete fail again. I think this goes to show I am best left in the hands of a professional haha!

Ooh i should add i started waxing my own eyebrows (love the result), the man let me do his nonexistant unibrow and he squealed like a girl, but it was still a win!!

Miss 10 wanted a "covid cut". She has such beautiful long hair I'm weirdly attached to so I really didn't want to (I'm by no means a hairdresser) needless to say, we're off to the hairdressers as soon as they open to fix my hack job!!

The one and only time I cut my own hair I was 8 or 9. I put my hair into a ponytail and cut off the bits I hadn’t managed to get inside the hairtie. Learned a life lesson right there and then lol.

I colored my hair! Well tried, epic fail I let hubby loose on my hair with a $5 bottle of electric purple temporary color, while it looked like it worked pre rinse as soon as I rinsed it the only purple I got was on my scalp. I have darkish hair but have used purples and reds on it before and its shown some color. Not this time, oh well will have to go to the salon soon and get it done their would love something bright that is a wash our rather than a grow out but would like more than 1 rinse!

Gave my 19 yr old son a buzz cut at his insistence like I used to when he was wee. I’ve trimmed my own hair, and introduced my daughter to the unicorn cut to layer her long hair and she did a lovely job of it too .And even brought clippers for my dog and groomed his overgrown locks.'

Yes we had a lot of fun experimenting and luckily all were successful. First project was my eyebrows which was most important for me. So my husband watched some YouTube videos and learnt to use thread and successfully thread my forehead and eyebrows without ruining the shape. Then we cut our son's hair and believe me we did a better job than a barbar and my son was happy. Then I cut my husband's hair and finally my husband colored my hair burgundy. We all are happy to learn something new and groomed ourselves very well at home.

We're having a competition at work for the longest grey roots. I'm going to win I think, most of the girls made hair appointments this weekend, but I can't get into mine for nearly a month!!

I've also had a huge clear out in the bathroom cupboard. I've found some really nice products down the back and now I have a bit of a tricky decision to make... Do I use them and risk some nasty reaction or do I just throw them and cry about it!??
