Can You Believe HOW many people have cut their own hair?

LOCKDOWN Beauty and US.

by BR Tabatha

Last week in the search of the facts and to uncover the truth, we surveyed our Beauty Review readers to ask if lockdown has impacted the way we look, and the way we buy.

Have we turned into a nation of women cowering in the shadows not because we’re afraid of COVID-19, but  because our body hair is now so long it needs to be blow dried?  What DIY beauty treatments has the nation resorted to?  Have we become a nation in love with supermarket beauty products, or are we hanging out for salon treatments?

Let's find out!

So there you have it.  The Lockdown Beauty numbers crunched - any surprises?  We can't believe so many salon clients have reached for the scissors and colour!  Let's hope hairdressers don't decide to add a DIY Tax!

WIN: Tell us more about any of your DIY successes or failures below and we might reward you with a spot prize from our awesome prize cupboard to boost your spirits.

I have cut my daughters (she’s 4 and it was her first cut), trimmed some split ends of my own and shaved my husbands head twice! Not enjoying adding these to the list of wifely/motherly duties haha

Tinted my own eyebrows (super easy to do). Was going to do my own nails (I usually get them done at a salon) but was going to give it a go myself HOWEVER the nails I ordered are still in the US waiting to even leave the Post Office :o(

I have cut hubby and both boy's hair, mine.......no one touches but my trusted stylist! I would much rather look like a disaster happened in a matress factory while at home and no one could see me, than have to walk around looking like a clown for weeks after lockdown ended and everybody at work sees me. Whahaha

My hair is not course but thick (as I'm I have a lot of it) so no way was I attempting to cut that. I have done my brows a couple times which I was happy with, I just plucked all strays and brushed them up and trimmed the ends! I bought any beauty products I needed from the supermarket including a brow pencil and night cream I hadn't tried before, the brow pencil is excellent and prefer it to my previous one!

Gave my self a number 2. I hate long hair.

Didn't touch my hair at all, my hairdresser would kill me. Did do my own brows as they were looking more and more like bushes. Didn't get to look after my skin very well as ran out of my normal product and couldn't buy it from supermarket. Used homemade scrub and a cheap moisturizer until level 3 allowed more shops to send items.

Didn't touch my hair! To scared it would all go wrong! In desperate need of a cut and colour but will be leaving it to the professionals!

Guilty! I have bleached my hair which turned out quite yellow but with purple masks has now turned quite nice! I've cut my hair and one side is shorter than the other so I'm gonna wait that one out and see a salon (whoops) u bought wax pre lockdown and tried it out put it on and was too much of a sook to pull it off myself after the first strip annnnnd now I have a weird patch lol

Didnt touch my hair I was lucky to have it cut and coloured a few days before we went to lockdown so its only just coming up to needing a fix and they rung me to say to book in now they can open again. I spent enough money fixing my home hair dye job so was def something I wouldnt attempt at home. As for other stuff had all my usual beauty stock in supply so no need to buy any other brands. I must say I didnt do any online shopping while level 4 usually i buy crystals or whatever else and pay via afterpay but i decided I couldnt wait 4 weeks so brought nothing my bank account looked healthy for a change lol

I haven't cut my own hair, I'll leave that to the professionals in fact I must sort that out shortly it could do with a tidy up or a new style? Hmmm

DIY sugar scrubs is so fun and yummy to be honest! Instead of spending $20 to buy a jar of sugar, heading down to the local supermarket and getting together some basic ingredients is easy and cheap. This is a good alternative and I can make the granules as big as I want. Sometimes some scrubs are too thin and ineffective. SO, A TOTAL SUCCESS!

So I put some blonde streaks in my dark hair first, but no they didn’t cover the grey, and bit brassy so off I go to get purple shampoo, nope still not happy, so then I get the scissors out and give myself some layers, nope still not looking good, okay so we try the thinning scissors, really looking crap now, okay off I go get a dark hair dye, put that it, things looking bit better, but not so good on hair cut front, looking very dry now after bleach, order keratin pak online, waiting waiting yah finally arrived, give it a good treatment, try blowing dry messy look so can’t see hair cut, nope still a fail, pony tail it is, now I have to wait for these messed up layers to grow before I show a hair dresser what I’ve done

Did not touch my hair! I wouldn't even think about it. I love my hairdresser too much to hurt myself like that! However... my brows... I grow the LONGEST brow hairs... ever seen old granpas with those long as grey brow hairs that get kinks in them?! That's me! Normally I won't touch them cos I pluck the wrong hairs... this time, I had to give it a go, my brows actual dont look too hideous for once! So proud of myself :D

I've dyed my roots successfully but am leaving the cut to the professionals!

I love DIY so its no surprise that I took full advantage of the situation. My daughter is 13, I usually take her to get her eyebrows threaded at the mall...but since that wasn't an option I learnt to do it myself and can honestly say I dont think we will get them done at the mall anymore... super easy to do and costs next to nothing. My Husband gave our daughter a hair cut, which was also a success! Another thing I've enjoyed doing is making my own natural face masks and brown sugar lip scrubs.
