Can You Believe HOW many people have cut their own hair?

LOCKDOWN Beauty and US.

by BR Tabatha

Last week in the search of the facts and to uncover the truth, we surveyed our Beauty Review readers to ask if lockdown has impacted the way we look, and the way we buy.

Have we turned into a nation of women cowering in the shadows not because we’re afraid of COVID-19, but  because our body hair is now so long it needs to be blow dried?  What DIY beauty treatments has the nation resorted to?  Have we become a nation in love with supermarket beauty products, or are we hanging out for salon treatments?

Let's find out!

So there you have it.  The Lockdown Beauty numbers crunched - any surprises?  We can't believe so many salon clients have reached for the scissors and colour!  Let's hope hairdressers don't decide to add a DIY Tax!

WIN: Tell us more about any of your DIY successes or failures below and we might reward you with a spot prize from our awesome prize cupboard to boost your spirits.

I am far too scared to try give myself a wax. I tired it once when I was a uni student and it has scared me for life! I can't wait to go into my salon in level two for a full make over:)

I attempted to wax my upper lip, not sure why because I have never had it waxed before. Safe to say I was too scared to pull the wax off so had to get my partner to do it. There were tears and yelling but I've had a silky smooth upper lip this whole lockdown now

After watching a few youtube clips I tried to give myself "curtain bangs", I keep telling myself they look ok considering I cut them myself... but I will need to visit the hairdresser to get them tidied up!

I’d rather just let my hair grow but have definitely cut my kids hair. Surprised that there are so many have cut their own! Lockdown has affected my spend on products and exercise is taking its toll on my hair, looking forward to giving it a treat soon.

I have been trying to get my husband to let me cut his hair because he looks like Shrek the sheep. I haven’t seen it as long as this for years. Anyway the answer is a firm NO, says he will wait until lockdown is over ! As for me - I have had a few goes at cutting mine, and while it looks ok I don’t think I would qualify for a job at a hair salon!

At-home eyebrow shaping never works out like it does in the salon!

Years ago when i was younger i used to always bleach my hair myself but now i get foils at a salon but the whole lockdown period i was so tempted to bleach my hair, i had all the stuff i needed at home (bleach, developer, toner etc.), because i didn't know how to bleach my hair since i get foils i decided to compromise and cut myself a fringe! LOL big mistake! there is no way i can make the fringe look slightly good, even clipping it back looks bad :( lesson learned though i will never cut myself a fringe again no matter how tempted i get.

I have been using this time to focus on my fitness so have been running pretty much daily- so lots of lovely sweaty pony tails haha! I have been too scared to try and cover my special “ glittery” pieces as my nearly 6 yr old calls then ... but have been playing around with home made hair masks to combat all the extra washing!

I must admit I have dyed my hair with the assistance of my husband while in lockdown mode. My husband has got me to cut his hair, but my son refuses to let me do his. I think he noticed the cut I did on his father that he is too scared to let me loose on his red locks. I will trim bit that annoy me on my hair till I can get my hair cut booked in. Good luck with getting bookings, I have found it impossible.

I managed to diy a trim, but it’s only me at home, so I ended up having to hold a mirror behind my head and I used a pair of kitchen scissors!! It’s not great... but I mean no one has seen it really so I don’t mind

I just trimmed my fringe a tad because one,I did not want to butcher it and two,I couldn't see properly so I kind of needed to snip at my bangs!Rang my hairdresser yesterday and the earliest appointment I can get is in two weeks so I guess I will have to keep looking like Rapunzel a little bit longer.

My 12 year old son finally agreed to let me give his hair a clip (the last time was years ago and it didn't go well.. So I bought some clippers online over a week ago..they still haven't arrived. I guarantee he's going to backtrack now that level 2 is coming!

Oh man. One time I got my mother to bleach my hair at home with salon grade 40vol. We did it 3 times in one night. Mostly because I didn't know about toner and thought more bleach would solve the orange issue..

Needless to say my hair was straight up jelly by the time I was done

I have proudly managed not to succumb to temptation to dye my own hair! Every week I'd stop by the boxed hair colour but that little inner ex-hairdresser-apprentice of 10 years ago said no. So I can't wait to get back to the salon! I tried skin care from the supermarket but it just isn't the same as my favourite Lancome. But I've been holding off on buying it incase there is a level 2 sale!

My partner and i successfully cut our sons hair, but I am definitely holding out for a salon cut and colour myself! The beauty highlight for me tho is definitely giving my skin a break from makeup. I have been trying to clear hormonal acne and it has worked a treat. Yay!
