Makeup Secrets women don't want you to know!

By BR Amelia

There’s nothing like chatting about beauty with your girlfriends, you’ll never know what new tip you’ll learn – like how hemorrhoid cream can keep those bags under your eyes from turning into rucksacks or how popping a bit of toothpaste on a pimple at night can help it calm the heck down.

But there are some women who aren’t sharing. More to the point, we’re not asking so they’re not telling. Possibly because they live on the other side of the world … Yes, international beauties have some amazing tips we need to know about, so we’re filling you in!

You know turmeric, that yellow spice that takes a curry and turns it gorgeous? It’s gorgeous for your skin as well! Women in India are huge fans of using it as part of their beauty routines – from face masks for flawless skin to a stretch mark lightening agent to a dandruff treatment, turmeric is said to do it all!

The next time you’re in the International aisle at your grocery store grab a pottle of tamarind paste. Not only can it make Thai dishes pop, but Thai women are clued in to how beneficial it can be for your skin. Rich in alpha hydroxy acids. it makes an excellent exfoliator when combined with sea salt, and it can also be used to create a mask and a toner! That’s like a whole facial from one product!

Scandinavian women are show stoppingly beautiful and their secret is one we can all achieve and oh so simple too.  Just eat healthily, be active, apply sunscreen, and be happy. … now to figure out how to learn to love running and stop loving chocolate …

Venezuela has produced the second most Miss Universe winners on Earth (with USA taking out the first spot). While a lot of work (and let’s be honest, well-documented, plastic surgery) goes into creating their beauty queens, the mere mortals in Venezuela are also stunning. So what secrets are they keeping from us? Alas, a very good part of their beauty is due to the richness of their genes, with a variety of ethnicities coming together to create a unique look. But if you do want to look after your skin Venezuelan-style, crack open an avocado. Eating it is great for beauty from the inside out, but the humble avo is also great for mashing into face and hair masks that leave your skin glowing and hair shining.

The secret of just how good argan oil is may be well and truly out of the bag, but it isn’t the only fabulous beauty ingredient Moroccan women have long enjoyed. Rhassoul clay (also sometimes called Ghassoul clay) comes from the Atlas Mountains and is filled with minerals, including silica, magnesium and potassium. This amazing product is known for it’s ability to cleanse, exfoliate, tighten pores and soften skin. It can even be used as a hair treatment to restore shine.

What’s the secret to Chinese women’s youthful good looks? There’s actually quite a few, from using rice water as toner, to drinking green tea for its antioxidant properties, but the one I want to get on board with is facial massage using a jade roller. This beautiful device is designed to reduce puffiness, increase circulation and detoxify. Oh and I can imagine how delicious that smooth cool stone would feel first thing in the morning. I’m adding it to my must-have list.

What about our cousins over the ditch? Are they hiding the good stuff? Well there’s a reason koalas like to eat eucalyptus leaves – there’s beauty gold in them thar trees! Eucalyptus oil can be used in a bath to help you unwind after a busy day.  It makes for a fantastic hair treatment, simply massage a few drops into your hair, leave for an hour or so then shampoo and condition as normal, it’s also known for promoting hair growth and fighting dandruff. Now that’s the good oil right there!

Aren’t we lucky to live in a world where women can learn about and share beauty tips from all over. So, spill! Have you discovered some amazing beauty tips from far-flung lands? Sharing is caring!

Tumeric is also really awesome for people with joint pain caused by arthritis. It is great for reducing inflammation

One of the South African Indian women at my work told me that when her daughter had chicken pox she used turmeric in her bath water to assist with the itching!

Great tips, I have heard that Turmeric is a super spice not just for cooking, and Argan Oil is fantastic for your skin.

Well I already have eucaluptus oil, so I might start there. And I have always been going to try argan oil. Might have to work my way through this list.

We use turmeric in face masks all the time. A mixture of turmeric and chickpea flour mixed with milk. Very messy but sooo effective.

This is such a great article.-I have used turmeric for a moth ulcer and that cleared it up really quick. I will be keeping this article to refer too as there are so many tips to try.

I use Tumeric and natural yogurt as a face mask once a week or every fortnight. It feels lovely and ridiculously affordable - well except the darn yoghurt because it expires real quick grrrr.

I've always wanted to have a facial using jade - it may sound silly but my lovely Chinese friends swear by it and if you look at their faces you'd probably want to get it done too. I'm only hesitant because good gracious Asians have beautiful skin to begin with.

It all sounds good next time I'm making chow chow I'll stick some turmeric on my face he he

Jade roller huh ? I'll do one better and just smooth /roll my pounamu over me kanohi see the magic happen... (totally laughing here not being negative or sarcastic just saying of this is what jade does then pounamu should be even better) :)

I've seen a bit of the tumeric around lately as a whitening treatment for your teeth! Its meant to work a treat! Tamarind paste as a face mask though? I'd be worried about it staining my skin haha, would love to know if anyones used it :)

Hmmn..the Chinese women's secrets sound doable..I'd love to eat properly and exercise but something inside me stops me from doing it :(

The Rhassoul Clay sounds divine!

Last night I just tried one of the face massaging tutorials and it was so lovely and relaxing. I have tried mixing baking soda and lemon to make a face mask before. I agree with argan oil being really good. I tried a hair mask today with it and it was lovely.

Oh I have heard of using a jade roller on your face. I saw one on CultBeauty once but it was a wee bit out of my price range!
